Lack of Motivation in Life

Have you been suffering from the problem of little or absolutely no motivation in life, so much so that nothing in life interests you? If yes, it is important for you to know about ways in which you can motivate yourself as it is one of the most important factors that leads a person towards success.
Have you ever thought about what makes a person get up from bed in the morning, even though the previous day was the most tiring one? The answer to this question can be defined in just one word and that is motivation.

Motivation can be defined as the internal condition that activates behavior and gives it direction; and energizes and directs goal oriented behavior. Most human beings have dreams of achieving something in life, however not everyone succeeds in their endeavor. This is because along with a dream to attain something, one should also possess a strong desire to reach the target. For instance, it may be your dream to write a book and get it published. You may have the ability to write a good book, but lacking motivation may come in the way of making your dream come true. Hence, it is necessary that every individual learns the importance of motivation and the ways to overcome the zero motivation phase in life.

Zero Motivation

Before we go to the tips for finding motivation in life, let us take a closer look at what causes zero motivation. Life has moments of both happiness and sadness. In the journey of life, achieving something is not easy. We need to work hard and put in our best efforts to gain what we want. One of the reasons for no motivation is the disinterest to strive for their goal. As they do not have any specific goal in life, they do not feel the need to put in all their energy to live life. Apart from this, other factors that cause zero motivation in people include:
  • Low self-esteem
  • Lack of self belief
  • Laziness
  • Fear of failure
  • Thinking too much about what others will say
  • Not finding enough time to do work towards one's goal
  • The habit of delaying things by procrastinating
This mindset in a person affects all the areas of his/her life like family, work, studies, social life, etc. People who are unmotivated do not realize that they are wasting their capabilities and little motivation can actually inspire them to do great things. Due to their inability to achieve anything in life, people suffering from zero motivation may indulge in self pitying or try to find out petty excuses for their inability to do things.

Tips to Build or Improve Motivation in Life
If you are leading a monotonous life, where you do not feel the need to try new and challenging things, you may be suffering from the problem of zero motivation. However, such mindset is just a bad habit which can be changed if you put your mind into it. Here are some simple methods by which you can try to build up the motivation that is missing in your life.

Set your Goal
Once you have decided to change the course of your life by challenging yourself to do something, the first step will be to set a goal that you have to achieve. I will take my previous example of writing a book here. If you want to write a book, write it down in your journal and think about how important it is for you to fulfill this challenge.

Visualize Success
Many times, people set their goals enthusiastically and start working towards it. However, somewhere in between, they lose their enthusiasm and drop off their plans. To avoid such situations, it is important that you define your goals clearly. Once you have decided on your goal, try to visualize the end result like what benefits you will gain, how you will feel about yourself, etc. For instance, try imagining how successful you would be after publishing your book. Imagining your success will definitely help you in working harder towards your goal.

Believe in Yourself
One of the most important factors that leads a person to success, is the belief in oneself. Most people become discouraged because they do not trust their capabilities to achieve something. One must remember that hard work is the only way to success and in our effort to achieve success, we may encounter failures. This should be taken as a learning experience and one should continue working harder without losing hope.
