Lack of Energy

Lack of energy has become the most common element to interfere with the daily activities of life. Be it students, working people or even homemakers, every one of them can be terribly bugged with this problem of lack of energy.
The most important step in warding off the problem of lack of energy is to determine its causes. I don't know about you, but with me, when its 11 a.m at work, I have this sudden rush of drowsiness which makes me sleepy, so much, as if I have been drinking all night. Things get worse after I take my lunch. Somehow I manage to keep my eyes open and continue working. For the past few weeks, this lack of energy has been interfering big time with my work and my performance. So I was determined to find out what has been eating up my energy and affecting my work. After a good deal of research I came across some good information regarding the causes of this lack of energy. I also came to know about some effective procedures to treat it. And the same information is what I am going to share with you through this article.

What Causes People To Feel Low on Energy?

My research on the lack of energy causes helped me realize some of the common factors which I was unaware of. They included, sleep deprivation/poor sleep, overwork, unhealthy habits and medical condition such as thyroid disorder, heart disease or diabetes. Also, lack of energy and motivation could be the result of psychological problems such as anxiety, grief, depression and the like. Stress is also known to be one of the major causes of lack of energy. When someone is stressed, he tends to breathe shallow. This in turn, results in an inadequate supply of oxygen to the blood, which eventually results in tiredness or fatigue.

The body can be ripped of its energy due to several other reason such as anemia, caffeine use, cancer, emphysema, hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, sedentary lifestyle, obesity, sleep apnea, pregnancy and emphysema. Smoking and taking an improper diet are also some common factors which lead towards lack of energy. Excessive physical activity could also be one of the obvious reasons. Apart from these causes, there might be a multitude of other conditions which may manifest themselves in the form of fatigue or tiredness. So, it is best to work with a doctor to help diagnose the real cause.

Accompanying Symptoms and Treatment Methods

What I would like to mention here is that, lack of energy is not necessarily a consequence of lack of sleep, which however, may be one of the causes. There might be several other severe disorders which may cause this low energy problem. So, it is important that you identify the symptoms on time and immediately initiate the required treatment.

Feeling drowsy or sleepy throughout the day and finding it difficult to concentrate is one of the classic signs of lack of energy. People who toss and turn at night, more frequently, indicate that their body is not getting the rest they need. Weakness, low on energy especially during the morning hours, passing out or the feeling to do so, vertigo, shortness of breath, feeling sleepy and feeling restless are also some of the obvious signs of lack of energy.

Apart from medical treatments, which you might be asked to follow by your doctor, there are a few things which you can follow at home to aid to the recovery. First of all, increase the amount of water you drink every day. Drink at least 8 glasses of water. A hydrated body suffers less fatigue. Then, try to get ample amount of sleep and inculcate a balanced diet. No high-fat foods, and reduce caffeine consumption. Take more foods rich in B vitamins, unrefined carbohydrate, protein, and iron. Take up cardiovascular exercises like jogging, walking, running, etc. It will make your body move more than usual, and also help you lose weight, which again, can be one of the reasons of lack of energy.

To conclude, lack of energy is not a severe problem unless it is taken care of, at the earliest. Do not ignore it, or assume it to subside on its own. Get help from a doctor and consider following some of these remedies. They have helped me and I am sure they will help you too. Take care!
