Everyone has heard of kimchi, if not had it… kimchi is a typical Korean side dish; it is also an acquired taste. But Korean food isn’t only kimchi; it is full of variety, color and spice. Here are some Korean food recipes. .

Pajeon – Green Onion Pancake
Ingredients:
  • Green onion, chopped – 1 bunch.
  • Onion, sliced – ½.
  • Carrot, julienne – ½.
  • Shrimp, chopped – Ό pound.
  • Scallops, chopped – Ό pound.
  • Clams, chopped – Ό pound.
  • Squid, chopped – 1/8 pound.
For batter:
  • Water – 1 cup.
  • Flour – 1 cup.
  • Egg – 1.
  • Soy sauce – 2 teaspoon.
  • Salt – 1 teaspoon.
  • Sugar – ½ teaspoon.
  • Dwen jang or Korean bean paste – ½ teaspoon.
For soy dipping sauce:
  • Soy sauce – 3 parts.
  • Rice vinegar – 1 part.
  • Green onion, chopped – 1 tablespoon.
Preparation:
  • In a bowl add all the batter ingredients and mix well. add water in proportion and mix.
  • Add the seafood and onions to this batter and coat properly.
  • In a large skillet, add vegetable oil and heat.
  • Make a pancake about 5 inches in diameter and fry in the skillet.
  • Serve with the dipping sauce.
Kongnamool bap – Rice with soy bean sprouts
Ingredients:
  • Rice – 1 cup.
  • Bean sprouts – Ό cup.
  • Water – 1 ½ cup.
For the sauce:
  • Soy sauce – 4 tablespoons.
  • Sesame oil – 1 tablespoon.
  • Garlic, minced – 1 teaspoon.
  • Green onion, chopped – Ό cup.
  • Sesame seeds – 1 tablespoon.
Preparation:
  • Wash and clean the bean sprouts and boil in water with salt till they are tender.
  • Wash the rice in cold water and soak for 20 minutes. Drain and remove.
  • Place rice in a rice cooker with water and cook.
  • After the rice is cooked, top with bean sprouts and sauce.
  • Serve warm.
Dak Jorim – Spicy Chicken and Potato Stew
Ingredients:
  • Chicken boneless and diced – 2 ½ pounds.
  • Potatoes, diced – 2.
  • Carrots, diced – 2.
  • Onion, sliced – 1.
  • Green onions, sliced – 3.
  • Chilies, sliced – 2.
For chicken marinade:
  • Salt – 2 teaspoons.
  • Pepper – 2 teaspoons.
  • Cheongjoo (Sake) – 1 teaspoon.
For sauce:
  • Gochoogaroo or Korean chili powder – 4 tablespoons.
  • Gochoojang or Korean chili paste – 4 tablespoons.
  • Garlic, minced – 2 tablespoons.
  • Soy sauce – 1 tablespoon.
  • Pepper – 1 teaspoon.
Preparation:
  • Wash the chicken and marinade with salt, pepper and cheongjoo for 15 minutes.
  • Take a large dish and place the chicken in it with water and boil. Leave enough water for cooking vegetables.
  • In a bowl, add the sauce ingredients and mix well. pour this mixture over the chicken and cook for an hour till chicken is soft.
  • Next add the potatoes, carrots and onions and cook for another 20 minutes till they are done.
  • Finally add the green onions and chilies and cook for a couple minutes more.
  • Serve hot.
Soojunggwa – Cinnamon and Ginger tea with persimmons
Ingredients:
  • Cinnamon sticks – 10.
  • Ginger – 5 pieces.
  • Water – 1o cups.
  • Sugar – 2 cups.
  • Pine nuts – Ό cup.
  • Persimmons, dried – 10.
Preparation:
  • Take a big dish, place it on high heat and add water, cinnamon and ginger. Allow this to boil for 90 minutes.
  • To this add the sugar.
  • Allow this to cool in the refrigerator.
  • Add the persimmons and pine nuts and serve.
