Knockdown ceiling texture is one of the best ways to give your ceiling a different finish. It will also help spruce up the entire appearance of your room. Here's more about the same.

How to Knockdown Texture a Ceiling
Tools Required
To apply knockdown ceiling texture, you will need an acoustical spray gun, compressor, hopper, knockdown knife and a bucket. You will also need Sheetrock joint compound and water, safety goggles and cap. The hopper will be attached to the gun, which has a trigger that allows you to adjust the amount of liquid that flows out. Adjust the spray gun to second largest opening and the compressor set to 10-15 psi for perfect texture.
Before Application
Before you start the procedure, make sure you cover all the items in this room using sheets. You must also cover the floor, as it can get really dirty while doing this job. Put on the safety goggles and cap. You need to work on the ceiling in sections. Take a section of about 3X4 feet at a time. In case the ceiling initially has some texture, you need to wet it and scrape off the texture before working on it.
Applying Knockdown Ceiling Texture
Step 1
To start with the procedure, you need to mix the compound with water. Mix water until the compound is slightly thicker. Remember that it should not be too thin or thick, as it can jam the gun's nozzle. It is essential to test the consistency by having a few test sprays on a plastic sheet.
Step 2
Start spraying the mixture on the ceiling. Make sure that the spray pattern is not uneven. Once you cover the decided section, leave it for drying for about 20 minutes. Apply the second coat and again wait for 20 minutes.
Step 3
Now, it's time to knockdown the ceiling. Remember that the compound should not be completely dry, it needs to be slightly sticky to be perfectly worked over. Take the knockdown knife and holding it at a flat angle close to the compound, just move it across. Remember, do not put it completely into the compound, just move it gently over the compound. Move the knife back and forth to have a rough finish. Keep cleaning the knife with water and clean towel in between the task. Once you knockdown this section completely, let it dry and move on to the next section. Read more on how to texture drywall.
