Knitting
Knitting is the process of creating fabric by using special needles (designed specifically for the task) to interlace yarn. The two basic stitch patterns are the knit stitch and the purl stitch. A knit stitch is one in which the loop is pulled to the front of the knitter's work, whereas the purl stitch is one that is pulled to the back. While the origins of this art are unknown, knitting needles have been found among the remains of ancient civilizations, including Egypt and Rome. While knitting may still be done by hand, as it has been for centuries, the first knitting machine, made in 1589, automated the process. The articles included herein relate specifically to knit stitches, knitting and stitch patterns.
