Knights Of Rose - Chapter 11

The next chapter, I will try to post two at a time all the time, but I am not making any promises! Thanks for reading.
The next morning I woke before him and I quietly got out of the bed. I walked the small distance to my room, took a quick bath and put on the white cotton gown I had arrived in. I took my cloak out and fastened it and headed downstairs. I slipped outside said I quick "good morning" to the tired guards and headed toward the stables. Today felt like a good day for a ride.

I walked the distance to the stables; it felt oddly refreshing to not have anyone leaning over me protecting me from every little thing. When I finally made it to the stables I found lighting, saddled him, put his bridle on and hopped on his back, feeling like I could take on the world.

I took off on lighting, running at full speed. I passed the men as they sparred and honed their fighting skills. We raced along the meadow together, the wind whipping my hair, and I finally felt a sense of peace. We slowed to a light gallop and enjoyed the beauty of the day.

We laid together under an apple tree, to lighting's delight, for a couple of hours and watched nature at its best. "It's beautiful here" I said to no one, unless you count lighting. I knew the men were probably up. I also knew they would go into a panic if I didn't get back soon. I got up, dusted myself off and climbed back on to lighting's back to enjoy the ride back to the castle.

Apparently I got there just in time because the men, as I suspected, were starting to make a fuss. "Ugh" I thought as I walked in. "I'm right here." I said as I walked through the doors leading to the dinning hall. Their heads shot up and a look of pure relief went across their faces, closely followed by irritation. With that I started feeling guilty for not telling any one that I was going for a ride; even if I did just want a few minutes to be alone.

We all settled down for breakfast and again I enjoyed the story telling of the men around me. As the servants came to clear away the dishes, Melody appeared in the doorway. She looked hastily toward the men and back to me. Knowing she feared them, and for the first time wondering why, I excused myself to go see what she needed.

She smiled brightly as I approached her and I couldn't help but smile back. "Hello Queen Rose" she said with much more confidence then the last time we had spoken. "Hello my little friend" her smile grew bigger still. "The tailor said she has a dress almost done and needs to do a final fitting." "oh, that was fast" I replied "well let's see to it then" I said smiling down at her. I held my hand out to her and she took it with some caution. "Lead the way."

As we walked we talked again. I asked her how she same to live in the castle. "Well my mother was to be married to a Knight that lived here. She tells me he is my father..." she looked at her feet than, realizing she just gave away something that holds shame for her. "It's okay, go on tell me" "Well one day he left and didn't come back. The King gave my mom a job here in the castle and when I became old enough to help out, I was put to work. I don't mind really, it's better to live in here than live outside the castle." Well this is interesting was all I could think, I was about to ask her how she knew what it was like to live outside that castle being so young but she was already knocking on the seamstress's door.

We spent the rest of the morning with the seamstress, putting the finishing touches on my dresses. The seamstress had already told me that she needed to fit Melody for her dresses, and I decided now was a perfect time to tell her about her surprise.
When she looked at me and said "That it" I smiled and thanked her. Melody was already at the door waiting. I turned to her "where you of to so quickly?" She gave me a confused look. I walked over to her. "I have a surprise for you" "A surprise?" she asked excitedly "Yes" the seamstress came back with two dresses.

She squeaked with excitement and hugged my waist tightly. We spent an hour getting her fitted. Then it was time for lunch. When we left her eyes sparkled with happiness. Two Knights came through a door in front of us and any idea I had about talking to my little friend again was gone. I just knew she wouldn't talk around them.
