Kindergarten Games to Play

Kindergarten games ideally should be innovative and should immediately attract the attention of the children. They need not be very complicated and sophisticated. All you want is to keep the children engaged. If you have run out of ideas, read on.
Kindergarten is where the tiny tots enter the realm of their academic arena. That is their stepping stone to the unexplored and unknown side of the world which teaches them innumerable things. What they need in this age is not just a dry and harsh introduction to subjects. They are labeled as handle with care. So you have to merge learning with fun activities, predominantly games. You ask any teacher about this and he or she is going to say that 'teaching kids of this age is a hell of a job'! Yes it is, because their minds are jumping like monkeys from a branch to another. Keeping that in mind you have to come up with games which will keep them interested in a subject as well have a ball of a time. Presenting to you some kindergarten games and activities!

Games to Play in Kindergarten

Tug of War
This is a kiddie's delight. No preparation required no elaborate gear needed except for a rope. Moreover, kids love these kinds of things - pulling and pushing is good fun! Dividing the class into groups with each group having around 6 members and you're ready for a tug of war competition, with the kids tugging and pulling at the rope. Give the winning team a bar of chocolate or a small storybook! The kids will cherish this activity!

Wild Goose Chase
This is an out-and-out an outdoor kindergarten game. Have the kids sit in a circle in the garden or in any open area. Ensure that the children face inward while forming a circle. Then one of them will be the picker, who will walk around the circle. He or she taps each one sitting in the circle and say 'duck'. Occasionally that kid will say 'goose'. The one who has been called a goose gets up and chases the picker. If the picker sits in the vacant place left by the goose before the goose gets him, the goose becomes the picker. If the goose is not able to catch the picker, the goose takes his or her original place. It is a great way to develop motor skills as well as alertness amongst kids.

Egg Toss
In this game, just do not care about eggs! Let them break! This is a very simple game, where you ask the kids to first stand facing each other. Then ask them to toss the egg back and forth between each other. Let's say after a round of 5 tosses, they take a step back. It is not a hugely educational game but kids will learn control and more importantly, team work. Oh yes, children, avoid putting on your new pullovers for this game coz' you are bound to spoil it!

Name Game
This is one of the easiest kindergarten games to play in class. The children should form a circle and have a beach volleyball preferably. A student will throw the ball to the other and while catching the ball that student will say his or her name out loud. Then the student who has caught the ball will throw it to another student. But the catch here is that if the student throwing the ball knows the name of the student towards whom the ball is thrown, he or she has to say that student's name. If the student does not know the name of the student supposed to catch the ball, he or she will know it when the child calls out his or her name. This could be good for an introduction before children actually start on with the games.

Treasure Island
Children love chocolate and the likes. This gives way for a treasure hunt! Now, think of things; toys, ball, chocolates, crackers and stuff, a beautiful feather may be, which are treasured by kids. Hide them in different spots on the playground or in the class room and leave some clues for the students. Help them work through the clues and reach the treasure. This is a fine game to develop those small gray cells of students!

Fun with Checkers
It might sound difficult and complex, but it is actually not. Who said that you should be an expert. Students can have fun by just moving the pieces one over the other! There is no rule that you should have only 1 piece on the board for finishing the game! Thus, if and when you cannot think of anything else, checkers can come to your rescue!

There are quite a few more, but I will leave it for the kindergarten teachers to actually engage the children in these games! Finally, more than learning, I feel the objective of kindergarten games is to let the children just be themselves and know each other. Till they have no math, no physics, no nightmarish geography or science projects they can afford to let loose and have a gala time. Bring it on kiddos!
