Kim Clijsters Comeback with a US Open 2009 Title
Being a working mom is not very difficult when your job is into teaching, stock market or even management. Its however extremely difficult when you happen to be a sports person. Kim Clijsters has replied to all those who'd written her off by now, by winning the US Open 2009. She had left tennis after winning US Open 2005. Today, she has rewritten the history of successful comebacks, by coming full circle and winning it again in 2009.
I cannot imagine the motivation that made Kim Clijsters come back into tennis. After leaving the field in 2005, she changed from a tennis player into an ordinary girl. She got married and even had a baby. Before quitting she had had everything. Everything was a 'been there, done that' for her. She had held the number one position in both singles and doubles rankings, she had won as many as 34 singles and 11 doubles titles. What more could one want. Moreover, she decided to call it quits after a win at the US Open.
Then one day in January this year, Kim Clijsters woke up as the tennis player once again. She made the life changing decision to stage a comeback, knowing that she was badly out of shape and had not played since 2005. She underwent a grueling training to gain back her fitness and stamina. She went forward knowing how uphill the task was. I am sure she must have felt at least once during her strict battle that there was no reason for her to do all this. She didn't need the money, she'd already had the fame and more importantly she had a settled life now. Yet she continued, and God only knows what her motivations were.
It is very easy to do something when you're cornered and have to do it. It is extremely difficult to do the same by choice. So today, this ordinary lady had written extraordinary records for herself. She's back into tennis with a bang, a force to be reckoned with. She is back to her original shape. In fact, watching her play before and knowing her now, I do not find any physical evidence of her life beyond the tennis field. Unseeded wild card entrant into the US Open 2009, Kim Clijsters has made her country, her family and the world proud.
On her road to success, Kim met many hurdles. She overcame them all, with an unmatchable desire and will. That separates her from all of us ordinaries. For all those who think they cannot anymore, Kim Clijsters is the real life example of what will power can do. And even though she rough rolled my favorite player Venus Williams, I know for a fact that she deserved it. Today, she's beaten 9th seed finalist, Caroline Wozniacki in straight sets and won a title that is even more precious for its history, than any other she's won before. Though the US Open final results show a 7-5 6-3 win, Caroline must also be congratulated for her good fight back. Wikipedia must update its pages again, for this US Open result has changed history today.
