Kid's Lunch Recipes

Lunch time should be an exciting occasion for kids. Since taste is very critical to kids, filling their lunch box with yummy foods is critical. Lunch is the perfect opportunity to combine tasty food and high nutritional value. The traditional sandwich and fruit lunch combo is generally popular. Introducing some alternatives and exciting foods into a lunch at home or school lunch will encourage kids to try new foods.
Since whole grains is a critical addition to a healthy meal plan for children, preparing a whole wheat pita pizza for lunch is an ideal way to get little ones to eat the bread and grains they need. Offer your child something delicious and nutritious for lunch, perhaps something that you prepare at home. These lunches can be interesting, healthy and simple.
Pita Pockets with 4 Cheese Filing
This pocket sandwich is packed with an Italian seasoning blend with four tasty cheeses. If you want to add a little something extra you can smear on chipotle mayo or add chopped ham or chicken to the mixture.
Ingredients:
1/4 cup ricotta cheese
2 tbsp. grated mozzarella cheese
2 tbsp. grated provolone cheese
2 tsp. grated Parmesan cheese
1/8 tsp. dried basil
Pinch of dried oregano
Dash of black pepper
1 pita bread pocket
Instructions:
1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees
2. In a bowl, combine together the cheeses, herbs, and pepper
3. Split the bread halfway around the edge
4. Fill with the cheese mixture.
5. Wrap the sandwich in aluminum foil
6. Bake for about 10 minutes or until heated through
Yield: 1 serving.

Pizza is a popular choice for lunch. This pita pizza can be made ahead and taken with in a lunch box or served immediately. Picky eaters can choose how many extras they would like in their pita pizza. For the less picky eaters, this pizza can be prepared with pepperoni, olives, and extra cheese.
Ingredients:
1 whole-wheat pita bread
1/4 cup grated mozzarella cheese
2 tbsp. pizza or tomato sauce
Instructions:
1. Preheat the oven or toaster oven to 350 degrees
2. Split the pita bread halfway around the edge
3. Spoon in the cheese, tomato sauce, and toppings of your choice
4. Wrap the pita in aluminum foil and bake for 7 to 10 minutes or until the cheese melts.
Yield: 1 serving
