Kidnapped Part 3 - Surprise

Twyla discovers something completely terrifying and definitely amazing but does not realize the extent of her powers.
"We are all mages." He said to begin. "Not everyone in a family gets the talent but those who are in the same family that get it, always get the same talent. There are several traits that all mages share. We are all pretty strong and fast. Most mages are power hungry but there are exceptions-like me- who manage to keep some sanity." He seemed pretty bitter about the others. "To answer your earlier question about why they do that...Well first off it is called using. They use because it makes their talents stronger." I kept silent. "I sort of have a theory about how that works but I’m not entirely sure. That’s about it, any questions?" "So all of you guys here are mages?" He nodded. "And they...uh...use because they want more power?" "Using makes their talents stronger, yes." At some point during his explanation he sat on the end of the bed.

"So, can you tell me who can do what?" I asked. "Sure. Well you already know that I am a mage of fire. So is Jake. You saw him earlier. He was the one with short hair that matches mine and green eyes...he was yelling at me. Shaun is an air mage. Tye is a water mage. He is the one with the foot tall blue Mohawk. John is an ice mage. He is our leader...you remember him right?" I nodded. "Good. James is an earth mage. He shaves his head bald and has orange eyes. It’s kind or creepy at first but he’s a pretty good guy. Dan is a light mage. He has blonde hair. It’s spiked and long. Nick is also an ice mage. John is his cousin. Do you remember Nick?" "Is he the one with the gray eyes?" I asked. "Yeah. Mike is an air and an earth mage. It’s rare to have more than one element. Mike is one of the guys with a ton of muscle. He is the blonde one. Matt is a dark mage. He dyed his hair neon red so I’m sure you would recognize him when you see him. Caleb is a mage of Ice, darkness and spirit. He is seven foot and he could probably break a tree in half if he wanted too. No one really knows him too well...he keeps to himself, not even John knows anything about him. He just showed up one day looking for a place to stay. He does not have to follow the rules as strictly as everyone else does because... well it’s obvious. He is huge and very powerful. He could be the leader if he wanted to but he won’t."

"You’re getting a bit off topic." I reminded him. "Right, sorry. Chris is a spirit mage. He has the curly blonde hair. Most of us avoid him because he can change your opinions, thoughts, beliefs and even your emotions." "That is awful!" "John can’t do anything about it because Chris could change his mind." "Does that mean he can read minds?" I asked getting more than a little scared. "No, he cannot read them but he can control them which is bad enough. Where was I...? Right! Liam is an ice mage. He is the guy you saw earlier with the frizzy orange hair...short...bad attitude..?" I remembered the short guy who was giving orders earlier when Marc was arguing with his brother. "Yeah, I remember him too. How many are left?" "There are two left, Alex and Ryan. They are twins but they have different talents which are never heard of but you get used to it. Alex has light blue hair and eyes...he is a water mage and his brother, Ryan has green hair with blonde highlights. He is an earth mage. That is everyone. Do you have any other questions?"

I thought for a minute. "I’m going to be here for a while, right?" He snorted. "Yeah." "Can I get to know some of the guys? The ones that are not complete creeps? I don’t want to spend my whole time here living in your bedroom...even though it is very nice." He snorted again. "Sure. Only about half of them should be avoided." "Marc, I have one more question." "What is it?" "Can I go shopping or do I have to wear this the whole time I’m here?" "Er....I will ask John." He turned to his closet and grabbed something. "You can wear this for now, it should fit." He held out a pretty green dress. It was casual but very nice. "Where did you get this from?" I asked suspiciously, thinking that it was a little odd for him to be having dresses in his closet. "One of the other girls John nabbed had a whole suit case with her. She left some of her clothes behind." "Alright..." I was still almost giggling. "It’s true! She was on her way home from a vacation! Just put it on, and please stop looking at me like that! I do NOT go dress shopping in my free time!" That did it. I burst into laughter. I was still laughing when I got into his bathroom to get changed.

The dress looked good on me. I put down my long brunette hair that was tied back before. It felt nice to have my hair down after such a long time. The deep purple designs that came up from the bottom of the knee length dress matched the colour of my amethyst eyes. I twirled in front of the mirror and grinned as the dress and my hair fanned out. I stepped out of the bathroom. "Do I look okay?" I asked when Mar looked at me. "Better than just okay." Was all he said.

I walked a little behind Marc as he led me towards the main room. I tapped Marc’s shoulder just before we got into the room. He looked back. "Is..." I paused trying to remember his name. "Is Chris in there?" I asked quietly. I did not want to be in there is there was I guy that could control my mind within a few feet. "Nah, he is grocery shopping." I raised a brow. "Grocery shopping?" "Yeah. We have to get our food from somewhere. Chris can get it all for free." I nodded. It made sense. "Is there anyone else I should be scared of?" I asked. "Your instincts should tell you that. It’s alright, I won’t let anything happen to you."

When we walked in there were five guys in the room. They were either reading or watching wipeout on the TV. They all may be mages but they were still all guys. So naturally not one of them noticed when we walked in. I forgot who was who so Marc pointed them out to me as we went to an empty couch. I remembered Jake who was on an overstuffed red chair but marc had to point out everyone else. "That’s Tye over there, the one with the Mohawk." Tye heard his name and looked over. "Hey." He said casually with a little wave. "Ryan is over there, he has the green hair. He’s sitting beside James, the bald guy and that is Jack." He said pointing at a guy who had shoulder length black hair that he had loose. His eyes were a shade lighter purple than mine.

"I know that we have never done this before but Twyla actually wants to get to know some of you." Marc announced. I was thankful that my hair was down when I hid behind it. "That’s a little odd but cool I guess. Is she a mute?" Asked Ryan. "Why would she be a mute?" Asked Marc. "Because I don’t think any of us have heard her say one word yet." Jake replied. "She.." "Marc? If you want to change their minds, you might want o let me say something." I said quietly. "Did she just say something or do we have to learn to read lips?" Asked James teasingly. "I talk." I said a bit louder then I blushed. I blushed a lot because I was so shy. "Now that we have established that; I just wanted you all to know that she will be around more than the others were. Also, does anyone know where John is?" Marc asked. "I think he’s in his office...or the gym. You should check both, I’m not sure." Tye said. "Thanks, I want to talk to him." He turned to me. "Do you mind staying here with the guys? I’m sure one of them will prevent one of the others from being...inappropriate if it happens." "I’ll stay." "Alright." He got up and left.

I felt a little awkward sitting there without Marc so I stayed quiet and watched the TV. Wipeout was still on; I jumped when the guys all laughed at a particularly funny wipeout. I would have laughed too but the volume of their laughter surprised me. Sadly I let out a stupid little squee sound when I jumped. They laughed even herder. "What was that?" Asked Jack who was wiping a tear from his eye. "Shut up, I was not expecting that." I was smiling when I said that so they knew that I was not really mad. But I was embarrassed so I was blushing. "That was you?!" Tye asked. "Wow, I thought there was a mouse in the house!" James said between laughing fits. My response to that was the same as any three year olds would be. I stuck out my tongue. They laughed at this as well but this time I laughed a little with them.

We were still laughing when the tallest person I had ever seen came up some stairs. He must be Caleb. I remembered from Marc’s description. He was tall, very muscular, he had brown eyes and long black hair that was tied back. He was wearing knee length shorts and a sweaty black t-shirt. He must have been in the gym. "Did I miss something funny?" He asked. He had an accent. I think it was Irish. "You missed an awesome wipeout. And the new girl, Twyla sounds like a mouse when she is surprised. Nothing you would laugh at but it really was good." James said. "I like wipeout." Caleb announced. Then he walked over to the couch I was sitting on. "You are in my spot. Scoot." I scooted. I was leaning against the arm of the couch. Caleb scared me. We watched two episodes of wipeout with very little conversation. Where was Marc?

I started to worry. What if he got in trouble for telling me their secret? Did anyone know? How would they find out? I got more and more worried. I did not notice at all when the room slowly got darker and darker. "Caleb, cut that out! It’s dark enough out here without you!" Jake sounded a little annoyed but cautious. "It’s not me." Caleb growled. "Is Matt nearby then?" Asked Jake. The guys looked around. "Holy crap!" I jumped about a foot in the air. "What? What is it?" I asked nervously. Tye was staring at me with wide eyes. "Your eyes are glowing!" "What?!" I squeaked, shocked.

The room went pitch black when I squeaked. "Now we can really see them. That is so weird." I was not sure who said it. I was not paying much attention. I felt a large hand on my shoulder. It was Caleb. He could probably see because he was a mage of darkness. "Calm down. No one else will be able to see if you don’t calm down. It’s alright, we will sort things out." I took several deep breaths. My hand disappeared beneath Caleb’s huge hands. He continues to try to calm me. The room slowly regained its light as I calmed down. What the heck? "See? Much better." All of the light was back now. "Wow that was weird." Jack said matter of factly. "What just happened?" My voice was shaking. "You’re a mage Twyla." Caleb stated bluntly.
