Kidnap My Heart - Chapter Twenty Six

Avery realizes what he wants...
Avery left within the next week to go back home. Ivy burned her way into his mind whenever he didn't have a thought in his mind. Now he had to break it off with Cara. He had just arrived in Boston and enjoyed the rush of everything. His office had given him extra time off so he had a week left of his break. As he walked out of the airport, the busy city embraced him with snow. He felt the small snowflakes drift slowly onto his face. He looked up at the sky and watched at the snowflakes fell to the ground as if they were in a slow dance. His first errand was Cara. He felt a twinge of guilt inside of his heart about how he was going to lie it down for her. He walked along the cold snow filled ground toward the lines of cabs. He hailed a cab and entered the car full of warmth. A balding man in his 60s looked over his shoulder at him and nodded. "Where to?" he said in a gruff voice.

Avery closed his eyes shortly and recited his address. They drove in silence besides from the classical music in the background. When they reached his house, he paid the driver and tipped him almost too generously. He walked up the steps outside his apartment and smiled. Home sweet home, he thought with a smile. He walked into his house and turned on the lights only to see a waiting Cara. When he looked up at her, the first thing he noticed was her immaculately curled hair and tight clothing. He looked straight at her face full of perfect makeup and cringed. She stood in front of him with her hands on her hips and frowned. "Where have you been Avery? I have been trying to find you for about 3 weeks." She whined. Avery felt like punching the wall but pulled his emotions down. "None of your business Cara. We're not entirely an item so why bother me with useless things I don't care about?" he said coldly.

She walked toward him and her heels clacked onto the wood floor annoyingly. It took a lot in Avery to not run away from her entirely. She giggled and sat on a chair close to the front door. "Oh Avery, you are SO funny! I know where you were anyway so no need to explain. And please!! You and I are so perfect for each other." She said in a pouty voice. Avery clenched his fists tightly and looked up at her square in the eye. "If you're done now, please leave and get out of my life forever. We were never really together and I would rather jump off a building than be with you." He said as he opened the door widely. She marched up to the edge of the threshold and turned back at him with a spiteful gaze. "You'll regret losing me Avery Warren." She said in an icy tone. She stepped onto the first step out of his house and turned her whole body toward the door. Avery shut the door half way and stuck his head out of the open part. He grinned knowingly and shook his head. "Actually, I already found someone I'm willing to be with for the rest of my life. And what do you have? Nothing." He said with a smug look. He shut the door on her dumbstruck face and smiled to himself, knowing he had one last hurdle to jump.

Weeks turned into a month and Ivy was expected back in Riverton for Julia and Mason's wedding. Within the time she was back at her home, Ivy had realized she did need Ryan around. He was a good friend to her and even offered to go with her. Crystal was going as well and was more than happy to visit Chris. The two had bonded on Crystal's last day there and hit off almost too well. They kept their relationship strong as they talked over the phone nonstop every day. Ivy also talked to him and he had mentioned how Avery had been before he left also to go back to Boston. Chris had explained how Avery put up a tough front but had fought those problems deep inside him. Ivy felt drastically responsible for the pain that was caused inside of him. She knew seeing him would be hard but she had to get through it. It was the same feeling she had the first time around and yet incredibly different. This time she knew it was her fault even if she still felt he was responsible.

She left her heart with him and she blamed him for taking it, even if he had no idea. Now, as she was packing her bags, a feeling of guilt washed over her. "You ready yet? We have to start moving if you want an extra day to rest." Ryan said as he entered her room. Ivy nodded slowly and walked around her room in search of clothing. Within those few weeks, she had become withdrawn. Crystal had said it was a reminder of what had happened when she had first moved there. She felt arms wrap around her body and smiled faintly. "Don't act like this Ivy. You are going to see this Avery guy and you guys will work out your problems and all will end well. Got it??" he said as he hugged her tightly. Ivy smiled and slumped against his chest. "If he even shows up." She said gloomily. "He will be. You were the one who told me he wouldn't miss this wedding even if his life depended on it." Ryan said annoyed. For the last weeks, Ryan was practically her secretary. He made sure she was intact and lively when she went to work and that her emotions didn't get the better of her.

Crystal had also done the same and had to smack sense into her more than once. It was a nice feeling but she still had that feeling of regret on the layer of her thoughts. "I know. I just wish that this wedding meant less to me so I wouldn't have to go. Instead I get chosen to be a bridesmaid and have to be near him." she said in disgust. Ryan reached down and kissed her head as a friendly sign of affection. "Don't worry about it. You have your other friends, Crystal and me there to back you up. Are you sure I won't stir up rumors? I mean we were about to get married. Avery might sense something's still here." He said as he pointed from her back to him. Ivy giggled and shook her head. "If that's your way of saying you're scared, don't be. You might stir up rumors but we will instantly kill them out by saying you have a girlfriend here. You can name her what you want. Just be sure to tell me since I might mess up and say another name." She said responded. Ryan smiled and let go of her. "Alright. Now hurry up so we can head out." He walked out of her room and Ivy stared out the window with a smile. The blue sky brightened her mood as she watched the birds soar above. She was ready for all that was coming when it came to Avery.
