Kidnap My Heart - Chapter Seventeen
Ivy receives shocking news... How will she react to it all?
Ivy decided before her night was done from being away from her home, to go to the beach across the street from Evelyn and Nate's house. The moon was already above and the clouds rolled through the dark sky. She sat on a rock near the shore and listened as the waves splashed through the darkness. The mist hit her face softly and left cold memory on her face. She took off her shoes and walked barefoot across the soft, sandy shore. Her mind wandered to Avery. That man would be the death of her poor heart. It was overbearingly painful to deal with the feelings she knew were still there. Avery. Even the sound of his voice coming from her mouth scared her. She thought it was because the way her feelings seemed to pop out as she said it. This whole time she was here, she had been reminded continuously about him by her mom and Crystal. All those pictures she had of him had also helped with reminding her of the old happy times. She didn't know if going through with this was worth it. Ryan was waiting for her too but to her, Avery was more worth it. She didn't want to automatically fall into his arms again. She was alright with the chase. It would prove to her that he was willing to stick around.
Commitment was also a big part in this. She wanted to be with that one person forever. It didn't matter if there were millions of bumps in the road, she still wanted commitment. She used to imagine being with that one guy forever when she was younger. Too bad it was harder than she thought. Fairy tale endings were to be worked for. She had to work for it no matter how hard the sting. She was still working for it and she wanted it to be over with already. The small waves hit her feet as she walked and the wind gusted around her. She looked out to the city lights on the other side of the waters. They shined brightly and their colors seemed to collaborate with the moon. Her phone had started ringing out of her pocket.
She reached into her pocket and pulled out her phone. She read the screen and answered her phone stubbornly. "This is Ivy Kaplan, how may I help you?" she said in a businesslike tone. "Hello Ms. Kaplan, this is Gregory Wallace. I'm wondering when you're coming back to LA so I'd be able to meet with you since my client, Macy Sands. She really wants to settle the divorce papers and end it before more breaths are wasted." She heard through the phone. "I'm going to arrive back there in a little more than one week. Will that do?" Ivy said coolly. "Actually I, as well as my client, was hoping it would be earlier. Would 3 days from now work?" Mr. Wallace droned through the phone. Ivy groaned inwardly. This was her first vacation since she could ever remember. She needed this break and yet she was a workaholic. "3 days? I guess it's alright. Goodbye Mr. Wallace." Ivy said before ending the call.
She held her phone in her hand and clenched it unhappily. "What the hell does everyone want from me??" Ivy shouted toward the cold waters. Her eyes dampened and she wiped them quickly. Her heart clenched and her mind wandered again. Ivy had felt so weak. She felt as if everything was about what others wanted and never her. When has she became such a people pleaser? Had anyone actually cared about what she wanted? Ivy sniffled silently to herself and walked dejectedly to her car.
Ivy got home within 20 minutes and she entered the house with the same depressed feeling she had at the beach. Crystal had practically tackled her with questions when she had arrived but Ivy shrugged her off and ran to her room. She locked the door behind her and walked slowly to her bed. She sat on the side of the bed and looked up at the wall of pictures. She lied down and stared at the ceiling. It was that bleak white color she had hated so much. It showed no life. Just dreary and desolate. Just like her feelings. "Why am I acting like this?" Ivy whispered to herself. She knew she couldn't go back yet. There was an unsettling feeling in her that seemed to be renewed as her job came in the way of her vacation. It wasn't fair. Ivy groaned and curled up on her side. She heard multiple knocks on the door and her eyes closed tightly. She was so tired and she didn't want to talk to anyone again. She pulled her blanket from under her and wrapped it around her body. Before she knew it, she had fallen into a deep, blissful sleep.
Crystal had been worried. No, more than that. Ivy hadn't acted like this in so long. She was isolating herself again. It wasn't like her to feel like this normally. When she got home, Ivy had run straight to her room. Crystal had run after her and knocked on her door for a long time and yet to no prevail. Crystal had wondered what had happened. All Crystal knew was that today she was supposed to be with Nate and Evelyn. What would have gone wrong then? Crystal walked around the house anxiously and waited for Ivy to come forward but she hadn't left the dark depths of her room. "Crystal, why are you pacing so much? You're gonna get dizzy." April said as she walked into the living room. Crystal spun herself to face April and stood idle. "April, something's wrong with Ivy." Crystal said calmly. April stopped and stared at her disbelievingly. "What is it? Did she have bad encounter with an ex or something?" April said nonchalantly. Crystal smiled and thought back to Avery. She must have seen him or something, Crystal thought sadly.
"Maybe she finally talked with Avery?" Crystal suggested. April shrugged and walked off to another room. Crystal was left to think about what had happened and came up with a good idea. She pulled out her phone and called Avery to ask him about Ivy's position. "Hello?" Avery said sleepily. "Sorry Avery did I wake you up?" Crystal said apologetically. Avery chuckled and replied, "Nope you didn't Blondie. What's up?" Crystal smiled and thought back to Ivy. "Did you see Ivy today?" Crystal questioned. Avery was silent for a moment but Crystal heard him clear his throat, proving he was there. "Yeah I did. We were both over at Nate's and Evelyn's place.
Why is something wrong?" Avery said nervously. "Did you guys talk about anything from the past?" Crystal said coldly. "No and even if I wanted us to she would have shrugged me off. Why do you ask?" Avery said calmly. "When she got home she was really depressed and she ran straight to her room. She hasn't been like this in a while so I was wondering what was wrong. I don't know what happened and I was hoping you'd know." Crystal explained. "She was alright after she left their house I didn't see her upset about anything. It was a fun day actually." Avery said lazily. "Oh, well thanks Avery." Crystal said slowly. "No problem Crystal. Night." He said before ending the call. Crystal held her phone in her hand and stared at it. She would get to the bottom of this even if it was interfering with her personal business.
