Kidnap My Heart - Chapter Eight
Going back to the places where memories run wild.....
Ivy rummaged through her bags and looked for a dress. She didn't think she needed a dress set to kill for her trip home but brought one anyway. Thankfully she did, without knowing her desperate need for it. She pulled out a green silk dress with an elegant flower design on the side. She smiled mischievously and got dressed. She went to her full length mirror and looked at her body. The dress had fit like a glove and she loved how it looked. She sighed happily and couldn't wipe her grin off her face. The clock struck 11:30 and her anticipation level went higher. She pulled her heels on and went to fix her hair. In the past, her hair had been an unruly mess of curls but she had let Crystal fix her up like a Barbie doll. Now her hair was pin straight with bangs somewhat covering her face on the left side. She had to admit she looked flawless. When she was younger she cursed her mom for having red hair. It wasn't normal but it made her unique and she learned to love it. The guys she had dated all didn't believe she was a natural redhead and she didn't care. She didn't need to prove anything.
She applied a little make up that was only lip-gloss, mascara and eye liner. She grabbed her bag, keys, jacket, and phone before taking one last look at herself in the mirror. She held onto the door frame and smile at herself yet again. She quickly walked down the stairs and heard her mom watching TV. It made her happy that she could spend minutes with her mom without realizing how hurt she was in the past. This was the relationship she wanted. She walked to the living room and sat next to her mom who turned out to be watching a soap opera. She heard her mom sniffling beside her and she rolled her eyes. Crystal did the same thing. She would lie on the couch of their house and watch her little shows. Sometimes she would babble about how Robert had been deprived of seeing Katherine and send herself into a crying streak. Ivy thought it was sadder to watch her cry over something as frivolous as those TV shows. Crystal needed a boyfriend to tear her away from the TV.
If only, Ivy thought to herself with a smile. She herself couldn't handle Crystal's ways maybe a guy would have gotten crazy being around her. She was so unorthodox. She heard her mom sniffle louder and she turned to face her. She knew Crystal and her mom would like each other and mostly talk about mushy romantic crap while Ivy stayed in the room. "Mom you're getting your shirt wet." She said jokingly. April turned to her and frowned. Before Ivy knew it her mom threw a pillow at her. Ivy caught the pillow and laughed, her lungs constricting painfully. Her mom frowned turned her attention back to the TV. Ivy found herself to rotate toward the TV and watching just as some actors kissed. "Uh mom, why were you crying if they were gonna kiss? Isn't that a good thing?" Ivy questioned. "It's because they just realized they loved each other. It's so touching."
Her mom said before transferring herself into a bawling mess. Ivy sat and rolled her eyes. If this was the woman who gave birth to her, then who did she inherit her strong demeanor from? Ivy looked at the wall clock and decided to leave. "Wish me luck mom. I get to meet up with old faces." Ivy said giddily. April smiled at her display and waved her daughter goodbye. Before she knew it Ivy was out the door and heading to her car. Ivy entered her car and brought it to life. She brought the car top down and looked up at the barely blue sky. She knew it wouldn't rain but the sky had many fluffy white clouds covering any sign of blue. To Ivy, it was a beautiful day. She backed out of the driveway and drove her way to her old high school.
As she drove through the town she looked at old places she spent time at. There were her friend's houses and those places she hung out at. She passed by the old park where that picture of her and Avery was taken and felt a chill run through her spine. She slowed down while viewing a group of teens laughing and hugging on the cool grass field. It reminded her of before. She drove off quickly, shaking her thoughts away. Before she knew it she had reached the school. It looked exactly the same. The boring white paint had lost its glow since it had been newly painted when she graduated. The sign that said Riverton High School in bold blue letters was surprisingly not fading. She had to admit her school was bigger than others.
Two gyms, a football field, a soccer field, basketball court and buildings made for class rooms. It was indeed a big school. Nostalgia kicked in and she quickly brought herself to reality. She parked her car in the parking lot she recalled kissing Avery for the first time. It was while he sat on the hood of his Mustang. She had gotten so jealous of all those girls saying how nice it was to kiss Avery since he was a player. She was scared he would dump her soon, so she went for it. Little did she know, Avery was willing to stick around as long as it took just to be with her. It was so embarrassing but their kiss was steamy and lasted a good, solid 2 minutes. It wasn't her first kiss, but it was way more gut-wrenching. She groaned to herself back to reality and got out of her car. She took a deep breath and strutted toward the gym. There was a huge banner that said Welcome Back Class of 2000. She felt her belly do another flop and with all her will power she entered the school gym, even more nervous than she thought she would be.
