Kelly Clarkson Says Clive Davis Has it Wrong

Kelly Clarkson and Clive Davis remain in a battle of words after the release of his memoirs and her blog posts.
Kelly Clarkson, fresh off reading comments made by record executive Clive Davis in his memoir, "The Soundtrack of my Life," had some comments of her own. She noted in a blog post, "Growing up is awesome because you learn you don't have to cower to anyone - even Clive Davis." Davis' memoir was released today, and in the book he discusses the rough working relationship he had with Clarkson, who made it big after winning American Idol.

Some passages from the book include: "Kelly obviously is very talented and has a big, powerful voice." He added that he helped delay the release of "From Justin to Kelly" to help with Clarkson's debut release. He also claimed that Clarkson hated "Since U Been Gone" and "Behind These Hazel Eyes" and didn't want the songs on her album. He said that a conversation with her was put off "when Kelly burst into hysterical sobbing. We all just sat there as she cried for several minutes."

But Clarkson disagreed, noting, "Not true at all. His stories and songs are mixed up. I did want more guitars added to the original demo and Clive did not. Max, Luke and I still fought for the bigger sound and we prevailed and I couldn't be more proud of the life of that song." Clarkson added that she did cry, but only after learning that Davis hated the song "Because of You." Davis said that wasn't so, claiming, "Both Steve Ferrara and I loved the song and the record from the first listen." He added that it "delivered on the promise that Kelly could indeed write hits."
