Urban’s publicist confirmed Friday that Urban checked himself into a rehab center on Thursday night. Nicole Kidman, his wife of four-months, was with him when he entered the facility. Urban said, "I deeply regret the hurt this has caused Nicole and the ones that love and support me. Once can never let one’s guard down on recovery, and I’m afraid I have. With the strength and unwavering support I am blessed to have from my wife, family and friends, I am determined and resolved to a positive outcome." As of right now all of his schedule appearances promoting his new CD Love, Pain & the Whole Crazy Thing have been cancelled although his stop in rehab will not affect the CD’s release date of November 7.
Urban has been very open about his battle with cocaine and has been in rehab before. Urban has said that he found himself drinking excessively and free-basing cocaine. He checked himself into a treatment center in Nashville in 1998 after he hit rock bottom when he reportedly found himself "crawling around a crack house at 5 in the morning, covered in sweat, looking for rocks to smoke. At that point he made the decision to change his life and has been clean for the past eight years…until now.
Urban and Kidman, both Australians, met in January 2005 at a banquet honoring distinguished Australians in Los Angeles. They began dating that summer and married in June 2006. Urban won a Grammy for Best Male Country Vocal Performance for his hit song "You’ll Think of Me" earlier this year and was named Make Vocalist of the Year by the Academy of Country Music.
