Keeping a Tab On What's Said About Your Brand Online
A few simple tips telling you how to keep an eye on your brand online.
It's important to keep an eye on your reputation online, whether that be your own personal reputation or your company's. There has been a lot written about how to react to any negative press or comments but in this article I want to skip over that for now and discuss how you can monitor your online branding and reputation.
First off, why would you need to monitor your online branding?
Well, if you run a business your brand is everything. You don't want to be bad-mouthed offline and the same will apply online. Keeping control of what is being said of you or your company online is not just about vanity, it's about knowing of any bad press and being given the chance to respond (because responding can be the most important part!)
Below are three easy steps that anyone can carry out to protect their online branding.
Get Alerted
You can set up a Google account and set up alerts for any name or phrase you want. On a daily basis you will be sent alerts about any websites that contain that phrase. This gives you some warning and lets you react.
Get Analytical
Use Google analytics to see how people are coming onto your website. Look at the referring websites and if you see any odd looking referring ones then go an investigate. For example if people keep coming from they-are-rubbish.com then it should set off alarm bells!
Get Vain
Simply searching for your name or company name in Google will throw up a load of results for you to look into. It's similar to a Google alert but leaves you safe in the knowledge that you've not been missed in a Google Alert.
