Kanye West and Kim Kardashian Looking More Like a Couple
As rumors continue to swirl that Kim and Kanye have become more than friends, it looks like both stars may be ready to take their relationship to the next level.
In terms of substance, it's hard to get very excited about the prospect of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West becoming the next big celebrity couple. In a recent issue of Us Weekly, sources have described West's growing love for Kardashian, noting that he thinks of her as "his Beyonce" - a reference to Hip Hop mogul Jay-Z and his wife of four years. But while Jay-Z and Beyonce have managed to craft a credible public image beyond the success of their music careers, the same really cannot be said for Kim Kardashian and Kanye West.
No doubt, Kanye is among the most successful and influential hip hop artists of the last decade or so, but he's still most famous for his ill-advised and often-ill-informed public outbursts. As a result, he's known more for his eccentric personality than his success as a recording artist.
Kim Kardashian, on the other hand, is the epitome of reality television fame - she is truly famous for being famous. A well-timed sex tape gave her family's reality show a big ratings boost and she's managed to successfully parlay that into a full-time career as a pseudo-celebrity.
Kim's scripted romance and marriage to Kris Humphries has now deteriorated into a public divorce battle and the portrayal of Kardashian as a sympathetic figure to those willing to buy it. Now free of Humphries and lacking a clear story line for her reality television life, it makes perfect sense that Kim and Kanye should start dating for the cameras. At this point, both of their careers will benefit greatly from the courtship - and if they go the route of marriage and children, then they're looking at a true windfall.
