West, 31, reportedly smashed the photographer’s camera on the ground and was arrested on suspicion of felony vandalism. LAX spokesman Marshall Lowe said, "Mr. West was arrested at 7:51 a.m. outside the passenger screening area by airport police on charges of vandalism. Initial reports say this incident involved a paparazzo and a camera valued at more than $10,000." Lowe added, "In addition, Mr. West’s [road manager] was arrested for vandalism and battery. Several witnesses are being interviewed by police. West and his bodyguard are being transported to an LAPD station where they’re expected to be booked."
An eyewitness said that West became angered when he realized he was being photographed and "rushed the photog and grabbed his camera…threw it to the ground, breaking it into pieces." West’s road manager reportedly grabbed a videographer’s camera "ripped off the mic and viewfinder and smashed it to the ground." West was reportedly released shortly before 1 p.m. after posting $20,000 bail. He is due in court on October 2.
West has a pretty strong temper and is not afraid to lash out when he feels he has been wronged. In 2006 he was so angry that his video for "Touch the Sky" did not win an award at the MTV Europe Music Awards that he jumped up on the stage and threw a tantrum. The following year at the Video Music Awards he did not win any awards even though he had been nominated for a few that he caused a scene yelling at reporters and vowing never to return to MTV. As for the latest incident, his rep has not yet released a comment.
