Just Another Day - Chapter 1
The story of a girl trying to survive an unexpected move, her senior year of high school, family troubles, and an unexpected love. Please comment, this is my first story and sorry, I know this first chapter is a little boring.
We were all packed up in my dad's Ford Fiesta. And we, I mean my parents and me. We're the farthest from being the perfect family. My dad has become distant and has had a strange behavior these past few weeks, and my mom is a committed alcoholic. Anyway, we're on our way to Des Moines, Iowa. My dad thought that it was best for us to leave my hometown of Portland, Oregon. Although, he won't tell me why until after we get there.
"Dad, are we almost there?"
"Yes Melanie, we have just about 2 hours until we get there." My dad is my rock. He always knows how to cheer me up, and I'm definitely a daddy's girl. He's also a very smart man, which is why I don't understand why he's still with my mother. She is always drunk and constantly belittles me. But he told me that he loves her, and would never give up on her.
** 2 Hours Later **
"Melanie, wake up! We're here!" I jumped at the sound of my dad's booming voice. I must have fallen asleep. My father never really learned how to wake someone up gently.
When I looked up at our house, I gasped. I had never seen any pictures of it when my dad bought it. But it was HUGE! Before we came here, my dad said that it was bigger than our old house. He said it was because the midwest had cheaper houses. I got out of my dad's car, and stood there in wonder. Then coming to my senses, I ran into the house.
"Melanie!" My father called, "Your room is on the second floor, the second door on the left!"
I ran to go find it. When I did, I slowly opened up my door. My room was absolutely huge! I walked inside. I noticed 2 separate doors. I went and opened one, and it was a walk in closet. Puzzled about the second door, I cautiously opened it. I had my own bathroom! No way!
"I take it you love your room," my dad said with amusement at my expression.
"I do dad. Thank you! And I was thinking, maybe this move isn't so bad after all. I'm sorry for being such trouble."
"Don't worry about it. That's just how 17 year olds are." He laughed. "Well, get unpacked, you start school tomorrow, remember?"
I groaned. Just great, I thought. I start school not even 24 hours after I arrive to my new home.
