Junior Golf Clubs - How to Buy Golf Sets For kids

Need info on buying the right junior golf set? I'll tell you the three things you need to know for getting your kid the right junior golf clubs.
So your kid is finally at that age. No not the age where they take their first steps. I mean your kid is ready to take their first golf swing. Of course your first reaction would be to get an old set of golf clubs you have lying around and cut them down to size. There are so many things wrong with doing that I don’t even know where to start. Establishing a proper swing is very important no matter what age you are. If the child has problems swinging the club because it is too heavy or too long or they can’t fit their hands properly around the golf grip, your child will lose interest or even worse, your child will hurt themselves.

Size matters
First things first, if you cut a few inches off an adult club, you will be getting rid of the clubs flex. Can you imagine a child swinging an extremely stiff golf club? They would not be able to lift the golf ball off the swing. Make sure the club can bend. Now I know golf sets are expensive and you most of us can’t afford to buy our kids a new set every summer. I seriously recommend buying amateur junior sets for your kids. They make them for juniors and they really are not that expensive. You can find sets for under 100$ now. Kids grow fast so the club length can be a little longer than necessary but, I don’t recommend going more than an inch longer. It will alter their swing. The length of the golf shaft is the most important part of choosing the right junior club.

Get a grip on things
So now you found a club with the right length and flex, what about the golf grip? Are you using an adult grip? Can you imagine playing hockey with a stick that you can barely fit your hands around? You would have no control of the stick. Make sure the golf grip is a junior grip. Have your kid test out the different grips and see what size fits best. You would not want your kid to wear shoes that were too big, it is the same concept.

Too heavy for me
Ok, your child has the right grip and the right shaft but, is the club to heavy for them to complete a golf swing without straining themselves? They make junior club heads pretty light these days. Make sure your kid can swing the club. If they have to force to complete a golf swing, it will hurt their mechanics.

I hope you take all this into consideration when buying your son or daughter their first set of golf clubs. I guarantee you it will help them in the long run. Chopping down adult clubs for them is really not an option.
