The traditional birthstone for the people who are born in the month of June is "Pearl". According to some myths, pearls are actually dewdrops, that fell into the sea from the heaven. Pearl is a stone that is associated with properties such as friendship, loyalty, commitment and faithfulness. It is also is known to signify purity, modesty and chastity. It is because of such positive properties of this birthstone, it is said that the person who wears it benefits a lot as this helps in enhancing a person's personal integrity.

Wearing a pearl has a positive effect on one's health as well. It is believed that a pearl has healing powers and is very useful to treat ailments of the heart, stomach, spleen and intestines. Wearing pearl is especially known to cure ulcers.

It is widely believed that pearls are white in color. Although majority of those found are white, yet there are some pearls which come in colors such as blue, yellow, cream, black, lavender, gray, mauve and green. Thus, the color of the birthstone can be either of these. Black pearls are found in the Gulf of Mexico and cream ones come from the Persian gulf as well as Sri Lanka. Natural seawater pearls come from Indonesia, Gulf of California and the Pacific coast of Mexico.

Alexandrite

Alexandrite gets its name from Prince Alexander of Russia. This stone is a recent discovery i.e. it was discovered in the year 1839 in the Ural Mountains, Russia. It was discovered in an emerald mine on the Prince's birthday. As Alexandrite has only recently been discovered, there are no myths associated with this. However, people in Russia do believe that wearing this brings good luck.

The June birthstone Alexandrite's color changes with the environment. In sunlight, it gives the appearance of a beautiful green color, with perhaps a tint of blue and brown. Under artificial lights however, it changes to violet with a tint of red. Thus, the birthstone color for June can be either green, violet, or red.

Moonstones

According to an ancient Roman myth, the moonstone possesses the image of the moon Goddess Diana. Another Roman myth is that this birthstone color changes according to the different phases of the moon. It is a widely held belief that wearing moonstones brings health, power, victory and wisdom to a person. It is also known to bestow good fortune on the wearer.

Moonstones get their name from the blue-whitish colored spots that can be seen in them when they are held close to a light source. If moonstones are moved a few times, back and forth, then this changes to silver and reflects rays, which appear similar to moon beams.

The birthstone color for June can vary from a pearly white to the emerald-like green of Alexandrite, or the silvery-white moonstones. Men and women, born in June, who believe in their mysterious powers can wear birthstone jewelry to bring good luck. And those who do not believe in such myths can still wear them for their sheer beauty and elegance.
