The Joy of Search Family Pedigree Resource File

Genealogy can be an educational and learning experience.
My family’s huge into family history; or genealogy if you will. My great-great-great grandfather, George Mayer, kept all of his family records dating back forty generations in a large tome, and guarded that with his life. This book was passed down from generation to generation.

Eventually, with the advent of the copy machine, duplicates were made and put into a file in a cabinet. Then came computers, and scanners, and we digitized the book. We now keep the book under lock & key, inside a glass case, much like the case the crown jewels are kept in. For the value of the book is not in its pages, but its content.

Like most children my sisters and I grew up doing chores, practicing the piano, and other things before we were allowed to go play. But on top of that we also had to go search family pedigree resource file. Either that or search family file pedigree resource disc.

At the end of the day my mom would quiz us, "Christian quick, what was your 4th Cousin thrice removed Brenda Tenant’s middle name?" "Um....Merriweather?" "Correct, now spell Merryweather" "M...E...R...R...I...W..." "Nope – you should know by now that it was Y and not an I. No dessert for you! And tomorrow you’re going to search family pedigree resource file for an extra 30 minutes."

Like many things we’re forced to do while young, whether practicing the piano & the oboe, taking a shower, or going sledding, having to search family pedigree resource file seemed dull & boring for the first 8 years and we had to be forced to do so by our parents. But then once I hit 13 years old I started to enjoy it. I would sit at home and search family pedigree resource file for hours.

It became enthralling to read about how one ancestor bought his first car, and drove it through the barn wall because he thought that saying, "Whoa" would make it stop.

Or one week while doing my 30 minute search family pedigree resource file I read about Uncle Jay. The guy hated taxes so much that he raised goats and gave them all names & social security numbers, and then claimed them as dependents on his tax forms.

By the time I reached high school, everybody in my family was hooked on genealogy. Whenever we gathered together with cousins, aunts & uncles we’d end the reunion with a 2-hour family trivia game. We’d end up getting into arguments with each other.

"Oh you think you’re so smart? Go search family pedigree resource file! Prove to me that Great-Great Grandpa Bob spelled his first name with 2 O’s!" "Oh yeah? I’ll go one better than to search family pedigree resource file! I’ll go search family file pedigree resource disc! You’ll see!"

"Now children," Grandma Farmer would say, "You’re both wrong! I know for a fact from my 86 year long search family pedigree resource file AND search family file pedigree resource disc that it was spelled B-a-a-b. I believe we’ve had enough time discussing our search family pedigree resource file knowledge for the night. Time for other important things – hot chocolate & donuts."
