Jogging as an Exercise and Why You Should Do It

Everyone knows how incredibly good for your body jogging is, unfortunately though, because of the high stamina it requires, it can be a hard routine to stick to. Here we're going to address ways that you can ease yourself into a great jogging regimen.
Running is a great activity, and there are few other forms of exercise that can compete with it in terms of health benefits. Everyone knows that it is amazingly good for your heart, but it can do so much more than that. Running helps to strengthen your bones, which many of us need from having our skeleton weaken from a lack of hard physical activity on a day-to-day basis. Running can also help to reduce aging, as it is shown to help the body naturally produce the human growth hormone, something that celebrities take daily to keep themselves looking younger.

So how does one start up a running routine? As famous as running is for its incredible health benefits and boosting of stamina and athletic performance, it also has an extraordinarily high rate of people dropping out. Running takes such a large amount of effort, that the majority of people whom start it up end up quitting. They see it as far too demanding and difficult, oftentimes ending up feeling so poor and tired after a good run that they just don’t view it as worth it. The real problem isn’t the actual running though; it’s just that these people are starting out the wrong way. – Just springing up a running routine on your body is not the way to start.

You can’t simply go straight outside and start running cold turkey. Not only is it incredibly difficult, but your body won’t realize any weight loss benefits at all, and only minimal other benefits. This is significant – research has shown that at least 60% of people who decided to take up running did so because they wanted to lose some weight. How is it possible? It’s simple – if your body isn’t conditioned towards physical activity, it won’t burn fat. Instead, it will burn other, more easily accessed fuels such as sugar. These sources of energy are quickly used, and before long, a person finds themselves out of gas and breathing heavily. They have only been running for a short period of time, but already can go no further. This builds up the task of running in their minds as impossible and even more difficult than it really is, when in fact, they simply haven’t gone about it the right way for their body to handle the task.

The trick is to start small. Don’t begin by running at all. Go outside, do your stretches, and take a very long walk. By doing this, your body isn’t going to turn to high-output energy solutions because it’s doing something it’s more used to. It can then access deeper resources of energy, such as glucose, or fat. More importantly, your body is building up its stamina. After a day or so of taking a long walk, take a long, quick walk. Pick up your stride a little and try to maintain it. The goal is to get your body slowly more accustomed to a harder work load. Push yourself, but don’t overdo it. When you’ve been walking at a certain pace for a bout a week or so, pick it up again. Your first goal is to get to power walking. You want to eventually be able to walk at a very fast pace for long periods of time. When you are finally able to accomplish this, keep it up for a month or so. Then start introducing jogging into your routine gradually. Power walk for a few minutes, and then jog for thirty seconds to a minute. Ease yourself into it.

The other recommendation for starting jogging is to start walking now. Procrastination is the enemy of exercise, and it will kill your routine. Jogging has to become a common habit for you to be able to do it effectively. Don’t put it off for a few days. Make sure you schedule it in every other day or so, even if you can only manage a little bit. If you start delaying it and making excuses, your efforts are going to be squashed before you ever get started. Jogging is a discipline, and while it is very enjoyable, it also takes a lot of determination.

I highly recommend that everyone take up at the very least a walking exercise routine. Running and walking are incredibly good for the body, and are excellent at giving us the physical activity we may otherwise be missing. It strengthens your heart and bones, is great for keeping you looking and feeling your best, will help you give you more energy, and the among the very top of all exercises for burning calories.
