Jody Arias Answers Direct Questions from Jurors

The jurors in the Jody Arias murder trial submitted a series of direct questions that they wanted the defendant to answer before issuing their verdict.
Jody Arias continued to answer questions under oath on Wednesday, but this time the questions were coming directly from members of the jury. In Arizona, it is permissible for jurors to submit questions for the defendant to answer. The questions are given to the judge, who decides along with attorneys for the prosecution and defense which questions will be posed to the defendant. Most of the questions from the Arias jury focused on how it was possible for her to have acted coherently before, during and after she murdered her boyfriend, Travis Alexander, but remember absolutely nothing about the act itself.

Given the facts of the case and the repeated lies that Arias told prior to claiming that Alexander’s murder was an act of self-defense, it appears nearly certain that she will be convicted and will probably face the death penalty. The trial itself, in the estimation of many legal observers, isn’t a trial to determine guilt or innocence, but rather to determine specifically whether Arias will be sentenced to death for the crime. Arias stabbed Alexander 27 times, shot him in the face and slit his throat before stuffing him in a shower in his apartment. She also took photos of his dead body, partially cleaned up the crime scene and tried to create an alibi for herself.

Arias claims that she killed Alexander in self-defense after he attacked her in his apartment. She claims that he was physically abusive throughout their relationship, although there is no corroborating evidence or witnesses to support those claims. Alexander was shot in the face with a .25 caliber handgun, which is the same type reported stolen from Arias’ grandparents’ home a week before Alexander’s murder. Prosecutors believe that Arias crafted a methodical plan to kill Alexander because she was upset and jealous about their relationship ending.
