There are many jobs that involve working with children. Apart from the well-known jobs of teachers, pediatricians, etc. many other opportunities are available in this field. The varied career options which involve working with children can be fun. In case of part-time jobs working with children, there is a provision for flexible timings which one can choose to his satisfaction. One can open a day care center if he/she doesn't want to work under some employer. Let us have a look at the different careers working with children.

Different Jobs Working with Children

The careers working with children can be categorized into broad groups like education, medical and social service. Each of these fields offer an opportunity to help children in their development. Few of the jobs dealing with children are explained below.

School Teacher
It is one of the major career option available among the different jobs dealing with children. A school teacher has to work with children in the age group of 4-12 years. They have to teach fundamental concepts of mathematics and reading to children. One has to obtain a graduation degree from college in order to become a teacher. Working as a teacher helps understand the mentality of children since, one has to spend most of the day's time in their company; spending time with children is always a great learning experience even for teachers. Since, each and every child has a different attitude, way of thinking and behavioral traits, the teachers have to be careful in dealing with kids.

Pediatrician
It is one of the high paying jobs that involve working with children. A pediatrician is one who deals with medical problems of infants, children and also adolescents. A college degree (4 years) followed by medical school degree are the requirements for becoming a pediatrician. After completion of formal education, the candidates have to complete a residency program or internship term prior to conducting actual practice. Pediatricians are not just responsible for children's physical well-being. They also look after the kids to cure their behavioral problems, anxiety and developmental disorders, etc. A pediatrician can treat all those who are less than 21 years of age. These medical professionals can choose to specialize in many different fields like emergency medicine, adolescent medicine, infectious diseases, gastroenterology, etc.

Child Psychologist
The job of a child psychologist is not similar to that of doctors - who prescribes medicines only. The former has to deal with problems related to mental and social development in children. The variety of problems which act as a hurdle in the mental development are also dealt with by child psychologists; these problems could be simple/commonly occurring in day-to-day life or those which are much more serious. Child psychologists also help children in recovering from traumatic events of the past - which must have had a great impact on their mind. One has to have good communications skills in order to become a child psychologist. Those who have worked as a teacher, care worker, learning support assistant, etc. in the past can seriously think about this job option. Attaining a Ph.D. in Psychology can open many opportunities of high paying jobs working with children.

Summer Jobs
A babysitting job is a good option for working in summer. It can provide enough money for students to fulfill their daily needs. One can also start summer classes for children interested in music. Arranging tours/trips to museums, zoo's, etc. are some of the part-time jobs which could prove to be a good source of money.

Working with Disabled Children
The different services needed by disabled children include regular health assessments/checkups, provision of necessary equipment, etc. Professions which involve working with children with disabilities include the Disability Support Worker, Disability Social Worker, Occupational Therapists, etc. One can also specialize in disability on the basis of any of the majors taken up at school. Summer camps for children are the best places to look for temporary jobs.

Working with Children with Special Needs
The important qualities needed for working with children with special needs are patience and compassion. It is a rewarding job, provided that one loves to spend time with children. The ability to understand needs of children is required since, most of these children can't communicate properly. Even a high school diploma holder is eligible for such jobs. It is however, necessary to undergo a background and drug test before taking up such kind of jobs.

The different jobs working with children apart from that of teachers, pediatricians, etc. include those of child psychologists, disability support worker, etc. All these careers where one gets an opportunity with kids will always be in demand, given the rise in social and mental problems in children. One should however, be dedicated and work hard in order to carry out the responsibilities in a proper manner. This way, one can earn some money and also lend a helping hand to the development of children.
