Jessica Simpson to Star in Sitcom Based on Her Life

Jessica Simpson is bouncing from mom to Weight Watchers' spokesperson to television host and now to sitcom star.
Jessica Simpson has been in the news quite a bit over the past several years, from the episode where she wore "mom jeans" and the media ripped her for it, to more recent articles about being a mom and being pregnant again with her second child. But the blonde singer and entertainer is back in the limelight for an entirely different reason this time around, as it has been announced that Simpson will star in a new sitcom based on her life.

"I often find myself thinking that no one could ever make up the things that actually happen in my life," Simpson said in a statement, "between the real life elements and a great team of writers, I think we'll have people laughing!" The yet to be named series will be co-produced by Electus and Universal Television, with Simpson serving as executive producer. Electus chairman Ben Silverman called Simpson a "modern-day Lucy." While that may be a stretch, it seems likely that a show featuring Simpson will do well in the ratings.

"We are thrilled to team up with the multi-talented Jessica Simpson to bring this new sitcom to life on NBC as she is truly a modern-day Lucy with incredible comedic chops," noted Silverman. "From running a fashion empire to wrangling her public image as a new mom, we see Jessica's character approach a variety of 'everyday' circumstances that will get audiences laughing out loud." Simpson, of course, already starred in the early 2000s-era "Newlyweds" with then-husband Nick Lachey, so she's not entirely new to this scene.
