Jessica Simpson and John Mayer Call It Quits

Sources say that Mayer broke it off with Simpson, 26, last weekend, but the two are reportedly still in contact constantly. The source said, "He was just over her. He wasn’t into her anymore. He was ready to move on." The source went on to say that they have "broken up and gotten back together at least ten times before" so this might not be the end. Another source said of Mayer, "He’s fine about it, he’s not upset – but he’s definitely not looking for someone right now."

A source close to Simpson said, "Jessica and John are done. She is really bummed, but wants to put her best foot forward and continue being out and about. She is just having fun and not interested in any new boys." Earlier this week Simpson was in Cannes with her father for the film festival while Mayer partied it up in New York City. A friend of Mayer’s said that he did not join Simpson at the film festival because "he is not interested in movie people or being around that, and she is trying to establish herself as an actress. He is happy being a musician and around music people."

Sources say that there is no telling whether or not the relationship is completely over. One friend of Mayer's said, "The truth is we won’t really know if it is done for good until he goes on tour and we see if she is there with him again. That is when we will know if this is definitive." Mayer, 29, will kick off his next tour on June 1. Neither Simpson nor Mayer’s reps commented on the status of their relationship.
