Jessica Simpson and Gerard Butler Out Together in NYC

Considering the rough stretch that Jessica Simpson has been going through in the last few months, let alone years, it would be difficult to blame her for trying to hook up with Gerard Butler, if he would have her. Witnesses report that the two were having dinner with some other friends, including Simpson's stylist and friend Ken Paves, but that it was clear that they were most interested in each other. Eventually, Simpson, Butler and Paves left the restaurant together, although there is no word on exactly where they went from there.

In just the last few months, Simpson suffered the break-up of her relationship with Tony Romo, the death of her beloved dog at the hands of a coyote and a Fox NFL cartoon skit that lampooned her former weight issues. It's hard to imagine that there's any chance that Simpson and Butler would have anything in common besides a physical attraction, but sometimes you just never know.

Then again, the dinner could have been entirely platonic and perhaps nothing happened afterward. But how fun is that to think about? The safe money is that they probably went out for drinks after dinner, ended up back at one of their places and then things got weird and nothing happened.

In any event, at least Jessica Simpson can be talked about for something that doesn't make everyone cringe and feel sorry for her.
