Jessica Biel Named Most Dangerous Celebrity on the Web
Searching for Jessica Biel online may expose web users to threats of viruses, spyware and other problems when they attempt to download Jessica-related data.
Internet security company McAfee Inc. released this year's list of the most dangerous celebrities on the web - and Jessica Biel took the top spot for this year. Last year, it was Brad Pitt, who took the title from 2007's winner, Paris Hilton. This is not at all a negative reflection on Biel, just confirmation that she is a star that generates searches and user activity online. In its official statement on the matter, a McAfee spokesman said, in part, "Every day, cybercriminals use celebrities' names and images, like Kim Kardashian and Rihanna, to lure surfers searching for the latest stories, screen savers and ringtones to sites offering free downloads laden with malware."
Savvy web users most likely don't have to worry about too much, as computers that are properly protected are typically safe from many of the issues. Also, most of the more seasoned Internet users aren't as likely to click wildly on downloads from sources that may not be trustworthy.
Although Jessica Biel took this year's top spot, most of the other celebrities you'd expect to find on this list were present as well. Angelina Jolie and Megan Fox tied for 8th (how do you tie for "most dangerous"?) and Tom Brady and Gisele came in ahead of them at 4th and 6th on the list. Beyonce was the runner-up for the second year in a row and, apparently, searching for Beyonce ringtones is one of the more dangerous things you can do on the Web with regards to malware exposure. The Obamas, somewhat surprisingly, ranked outside of the top 30 on the list.
