Jessica Alba Lashes Out at Bill O'Reilly, TMZ

After challenging a reporter to be neutral like Sweden, Jessica Alba faced some criticism that she may actually be dumb.
Jessica Alba made a relatively harmless comment to a reporter, referencing the idea that Sweden is a neutral nation -- or that it was a neutral nation during World War II. Anyway, the comment generated some commentary from gossip site TMZ and conservative talking head Bill O'Reilly that Jessica may not know what she is talking about. The initial reaction is that she was likely referring to Switzerland and simply said the wrong country.

Of course, if she was trying to use a commonly held idea that Switzerland is a neutral country - far and away the most popular example cited when referencing neutrality - then the worst she can be accused of is simply saying the wrong name. And a name that is pretty close to Switzerland in that Sweden begins with the same letter combination. To suggest that she really meant to say Sweden is probably dumb on both sides of the equation.

But because of the way the media works and the way that celebrities are forced to deal with it, logic is often discarded in favor of trying to get in the better dig. Now Alba has pointed to Wikipedia articles and other online foreign policy experts to point out that Sweden, too, was apparently neutral during World War II. I haven't been able to muster the energy to get to the bottom of this debate on my own, but I'm taking her word for it.
