Jess and Tony Not Engaged, but "Finger" Scrutiny Increases Just the Same

Jessica Simpson and Tony Romo are not engaged, despite reports to the contrary, but we're assured that the couple is doing quite well despite Tony's broken pinkie finger.
Rumors that Jessica Simpson and Tony Romo are engaged are simply not true, according to the blond bombshell. Jess points out, however, that "We are doing great. I'm wearing my No. 9 jersey proud." We can only assume that she meant "proudly," but a mangled adverb now and then is perfectly acceptable given the obvious upside that Jessica brings to the table (a wink and a smile from Jess and all will be forgiven). Simpson also points out that "Tony and I have not gone to Neiman Marcus -- somebody said we bought a ring there. I couldn't drag Tony in to Neiman Marcus if I tried."

While Romo’s aversion to the upscale boutique is admirable, the star Dallas quarterback may have some time to go ring shopping in the coming weeks, as he reportedly broke the pinkie finger on his throwing hand yesterday in a brutal upset loss to the Arizona Cardinals in Glendale yesterday. Reports from ESPN note that Romo is likely to miss the next 4 weeks, putting the Cowboys’ now tenuous season in further jeopardy.

Despite the near-tragedy in "Big D," it appears that the team is strong enough to survive four weeks without Romo, but Wade Phillips, Romo’s head coach, is sure to be grinding his teeth at night at the thought of facing the next four weeks without his famous gunslinger. Romo, for his part, seems to be enjoying his role as the taller half one of America’s favorite couples, though the scrutiny he faces as Jessica’s other half is a bit "different" than what the NFL analysts and media put together. Us magazine, for instance, is trying to figure out which Simpson sister – Ashlee or Jessica – is more in love. To find out, they’ve consulting "body language" experts, who study the couples’ posture when they’re together in public to determine the depth of their love. No word yet on the highly-scientific approach to measuring one of life’s all-time most unknowable mysteries, but we’re sure to get more reports on the subject in the future.
