Jennifer Hudson to Sing National Anthem at Super Bowl
In what is likely to be her first public appearance since the murder of her mother, brother, and nephew, Jennifer Hudson will sing the national anthem at the year's biggest sporting event.
The teams that will be playing in Tampa, Florida in this year's Super Bowl are still yet to be decided. But everyone in attendance and watching around the world will be treated to a national anthem sung by American Idol phenom Jennifer Hudson. Hudson has been in the news most recently because of the horrific murder of her mother, brother, and nephew only a few months ago. Her sister's estranged husband has been arrested as the prime suspect in the murders and he is currently in jail awaiting trial.
In addition to her success on American Idol, Jennifer Hudson already has an Oscar on her resume, a result of her win for Best Supporting Actress in the smash hit, Dreamgirls. She also had successful acting turns in the Sex and the City movie, as well as The Secret Life of Bees.
The Super Bowl typically draws one of the biggest viewing audiences in the world every year - and this year should be no different. In addition to Hudson's anticipated performance of the national anthem, Bruce Springsteen will be performing the halftime show. For those that will be watching the game for the game itself, and not the entertainment, this year seems to offer at least a more palatable selection of singers. This year is conspicuously without any boy bands or pop princesses - but I just can't imagine that I'm not going to see the Jonas Brothers during the Super Bowl. No way that Fox is going to miss out on that slam dunk of a marketing opportunity.
As the world watches, hopefully Jennifer Hudson's performance will help to bring her a sense of normalcy after such a trying period in her life.
