Spears, 16, and her mother Lynne confirmed the pregnancy to OK! magazine and said that the father is boyfriend, Casey Aldridge. Spears said, "It was a shock for both of us, so unexpected. I was in complete and total shock and so was he." The high school junior reportedly took a home pregnancy test and confirmed her fears with a visit to the doctor’s office. She said that she only told one friend because she wanted to decide what she was going to do about the baby before she was influenced by her parents. Spears said, "I needed to work out what I would do for myself before I let anyone’s opinion affect my decision. Then I told my parents and my friends. I was scared, but I had to do what’s right for me."
Spears has starred on Nickelodeon’s Zoey 101 since 2005. Nickelodeon released a statement about the situation that read, "We respect Jamie Lynn’s decision to take responsibility in this sensitive and personal situation. We know this is a very difficult time for her and her family, and our primary concern right now is for Jamie Lynn’s well being." No word whether or not Nickelodeon has decided to cancel the popular series. When asked what she wanted to say to her fans about teen pregnancy, Spears said, "I definitely don’t think it’s something you should do; it’s better to wait. But I can’t be judgmental because it’s a position I put myself in." She also said that she wants to raise her child in Louisiana so "it can have a normal family life." Seriously, that baby is never going to have a normal family life…
Big sis Britney reportedly was not told about the pregnancy by her family and had to find out from the media. She reportedly "wishes her sister nothing but the best and asks for privacy during this time." Lynne Spears was reportedly upset by the pregnancy news, but has now clamed down and is "very supportive" of her daughter. It has been announced that her book titled Pop Culture Mom: A Real Story of Fame and Family in a Tabloid World has been shelved indefinitely. The book is reportedly Mama Spears "personal story" of how she groomed daughters Britney, 26, and Jamie Lynn, 16, into stars while coming from a low-profile Louisiana community. The book was to be published by Christian publisher Thomas Nelson.
