Different Breeds of Jack Russell Terrier Mix Dogs

The Jack Russell terrier mix breeds are dogs which result from crossing the Jack Russells with other dog breeds. Characteristics of these breed are presented below.

Jack Russell Boston Terrier Mix: This dog is a mix of Boston Terrier and Jack Russell Terrier. 'Bo-Jack' is the name given by owners of this dog. Since, both the Jack Russell Terrier and Boston Terrier are energetic in nature, this characteristic is inherited by the Jack Russell Boston Terrier Mix.

Yorkshire Terrier Jack Russell Mix: The 'Yorkshire Terrier Jack Russell Mix' has a calm nature in comparison to the purebred Jack Russell. The Yorkshire Terrier breed is known for its special skin coat. This characteristic is inherited during its cross with the Jack Russell. Knowledge of dog grooming is required to take care of this special skin coat. The exercise needed for this terrier mix dog is lesser than that of the Jack Russell.

Basset Hound Jack Russell Mix: The Basset Hound is a dog with long body. However, they have a height which is almost equal to that of Jack Russell terriers. The most important characteristics of Basset Hounds being inherited, are the sharp sense of smell and big ears. The sense of smell is enhanced by these big ears. Bassets being calm and relaxed in nature, one can expect a family friendly and less active dog than Jack Russell.

Jack Russell Pitbull Mix: A mix between Pitbull and Jack Russell can lead to a dangerous outcome, as both these breeds are aggressive in nature. A Pitbull dog loses its temper quite easily and is also capable of causing a lot of damage while in a fight. Handling Jack Russell Pitbull mix is therefore, a challenging job. It requires responsible and experienced dog owners to take care of this breed.

Cocker Spaniel Jack Russell Mix: The Cocker Spaniel dogs are docile and therefore, can be trained without much problem. These are cuddly and lovable dogs and also extremely loyal to their owners. Jack Russells are energetic dogs, the resulting breed (mix between these dogs) should be active and playful. One should however, note that Cocker Spaniels suffer from a problem called 'Rage Syndrome'. In this problem, a sudden rage of aggression is displayed by dogs. The problem is very rare and few dogs don't exhibit this problem even once in their lifetime.

Jack Russell Sheltie Mix: The Shelties, just like Jack Russells are energetic and hardworking dog breeds. It is obvious that a mix breed of these dogs should require enough exercise regularly. Experienced dog owners are required to handle these active and enthusiastic dogs. Lot of space is needed for these dogs to move around and play. The dogs are therefore, not suitable for apartment owners.

There are many more Jack Russell Terrier mix breeds and those described above, are only a few of them. The demand for Jack Russell mix dogs is increasing. Characteristics of the mix breeds which are presented in the article should enable prospective owners in choosing a suitable terrier breed.
