Jack Nicholson and Jane Fonda Inducted into California Hall of Fame
Nicholson and Fonda, two iconic film legends, joined a growing list of inductees who have helped shape the state of California.
Jack Nicholson and Jane Fonda are among the latest group of inductees into the California Hall of Fame - an institution that began in 2006 as an idea of California First Lady Maria Shriver. Some of the other notable inductees into the hall of fame include "Dr Seuss" author Theodor Geisel - inducted posthumously - as well as living honorees, Quincy Jones, Dave Brubeck and Jack LaLanne.
The California Hall of Fame is an extension of the California Museum and the ceremony to induct honorees has become an annual event. In addition to induction into the hall, a complete exhibit is established for each honoree that chronicles their life and achievements in audio, video and photographic presentations.
Jack Nicholson is most famous for his legendary film roles over the years, in such classics as Easy Rider, The Shining, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and A Few Good Men - just to name a few. Off-screen, Nicholson helped to establish the ideals of California Cool, becoming a fixture at Lakers basketball games as well as, at times, the most popular figure in Hollywood.
Jane Fonda was born into stardom as the daughter of famous parents, then quickly established herself as a film force with roles in Barbarella and The China Syndrome. Eventually, her forays into political activism and the world of fitness came to define her as a public figure. Jane Fonda's induction into the California Hall of Fame comes nearly 30 years after the California state senate rejected her nomination to the California Arts Council because of her public opposition to the Vietnam War.
