If the person is allergic to certain foods, it is better to avoid them completely. Antihistamines can also be used for treating allergies. Over-the-counter cough lozenges or sprays can also be helpful in treating itchy throat with cough caused due to minor conditions.
On the other hand, there are several home remedies to cure itchy throat and cough. Gargling with lukewarm saltwater is the best home remedy, which has been used since a long time. Ginger tea or white tea with ginger; or a mixture of lemon and honey in lukewarm water are other effective itchy throat remedies. Also, the age-old chicken soup can also be equally effective in providing relief. Although these treatment methods and home remedies are effective, if the symptoms persist for a long time, it is better to consult the doctor.
Itchy throat and cough is rarely a sign of any serious medical condition, but it is always better to try to prevent it as much as possible.
