Itchy Scalp Remedies

Itchy scalp can be quite irritating. It is often a cause of various scalp problems and hence, needs to be cured soon. There are many remedies which you can try for getting relief from itchy scalp. Here are a few of them along with details of itching causes.
An itchy scalp can be really annoying. It may happen that you are sitting in your office, classroom or a business meeting, and you are unable to keep your fingers away from the scalp due to extreme itchiness. Itchy scalp can be a cause of various problems. However, there are many easy itchy scalp remedies by which you can get rid of this problem. Before we move on to know about the remedies, let us look at its possible causes.

Home Remedies for Itchy Scalp

Remedy # 1: Mix 3 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in one cup of warm water. Shampoo your hair and pour this mixture on your scalp and hair. Massage your scalp with your fingertips. You can now leave it the mixture for 10 minutes and rinse it off. Most people prefer to leave the mixture in their hair. Your hair will have a slight smell of vinegar for some time, but this is a good home remedy for controlling scalp itchiness.

Remedy # 2: Tea tree oil and peppermint oil can be used to treat scalp itching. Mix a few drops of tea tree oil or peppermint oil into a cup of warm water. Pour this mixture over the scalp after shampooing. Leave it for some time and wash it off. If your hair has become very sticky, then use a mild shampoo after using this mixture.

Remedy # 3: The next remedy is using oatmeal to soothe your scalp. Take 1/4 cup oatmeal and soak it in water for 20 minutes. Mix well and then strain the liquid in a cup. Add 5 drops lavender oil, 5 drops rosemary oil and mix the solution properly. Now apply it over your scalp and leave it for 20 minutes. Wash off with a mild shampoo.

Remedy # 4: Make a mixture of 1 teaspoon of neem oil, 1 teaspoon tea tree or manuka, 1 teaspoon of rosemary oil and 1 teaspoon of lavender oil in 3 tablespoons of carrier oils, such as almond or olive oil. This mixture has antifungal & anti-itching properties. Apply this mixture on your scalp while going to bed. Next morning, wash off your hair with a good shampoo.

Remedy # 5: Fenugreek seeds are known to be much effective in clearing dandruff and itchiness caused due to the same. Take 2 tablespoons of fenugreek seeds and soak them overnight in water, grind them into a fine paste in the morning. Apply this paste all over the scalp and leave it for half an hour. Now wash your hair with soapnut (reetha) solution.

Remedy # 6: Take a glass of fresh lime juice, diluted in water. Use this mixture to rinse your hair for the last time while washing them. This will not only remove dandruff and cure itchy scalp but also add a glossy look to your hair.

Remedy # 7: Ketoconazole is a common antifungal drug used for over the counter ringworm treatment. Ketoconazole is also available in a gel or foam based solution. An anti-dandruff shampoo that contains ketoconazole is highly effective. It slows down the growth of the fungi that causes infection and also cures itching, scaling and flaking of scalp caused due to dandruff. You will have to use a shampoo containing ketoconazole twice a week. This is a quick home treatment to cure scalp itchiness caused due to dandruff or ringworm.

Apart from trying the above-mentioned itchy scalp remedies, you must follow basic hair care routine to avoid itchy scalp and hair loss. Keeping your scalp clean is the most important thing by which you can stay away from itchy scalp and other hair problems.
