Is Your Baby Picky Eater? Learn How to Deal with Picky Eaters

Many parents can’t believe that their babies who are still infants can be picky with food. But it is obvious that babies can be picky eaters. Here are few useful tips on what to do if our baby is a picky eater and how to deal with pick eater phenomenon.
During early childhood, picky eaters are the norm, rather than the exception. It can be very challenging for mothers whose babies are picky eaters to provide their children healthy nutrition. In spite of this phenomenon, you should continue to offer your baby a wide variety of wholesome, nutritious foods. Studies show that it is better to establish food preferences in the first five years of life because it contributes to good health later.

Tips for picky eaters:

- the best thing you can do for your picky eater is to provide a wide variety of healthy food and positive environment during the mealtimes. When you offer new food to your baby, simply put it on his highchair and don’t rush him to start eating. Remember to choose food which is appropriate to your baby’s age.

- don’t give your baby adult- size portions. Instead of this, offer portions for toddlers: if our beloved is one year old, give ¼ slice of bread, and if you want to give potatoes, rice or pasta 2 tablespoons are enough.

-to encourage your picky eater to eat new food, introduce it one a time in small amounts. Do not offer your baby a lot of unfamiliar food at one meal. Instead of this give favorite food combined with something new.

- do not offer sugary foods in order to make your baby eat more. Encouraging your baby to eat more various and healthy things will develop his sense of culinary adventure.

- observe what your baby likes eating the most and add some nutritional value to these meals. For example you can add chunks of fruit to baby’s favorite cereal.

- make your meals more relaxed and quite. It is harder for baby to concentrate on eating when cartoon is heard from the other room or when there are a lot of people around talking loudly. Try to minimize distractions.

- you have to realize that some children are more sensitive when you want to introduce new food. It is more probable that they will not like the texture or color of some foods. Other children can reject food because they associate it with some negative taste or with the moment when they were sick.
