Is This What Love Is?
First day of Junior Year. Characters introduced: Alina (Mercedes) and Aleeyah.
As I finished straightening my last strand of hair, Aleeyah called from downstairs.
"Mercedes let's go! I don't wanna be late!" Aleeyah said. I call her Alee for short. Her, and I have been best friends since we could walk. We're basically sisters.
"Coming!" I shouted back.
I put in my purple diamond earrings that my other best friend, Austin, gave me for my birthday, and a purple bracelet. I looked in the full length mirror to see my outfit. I don't want to sound conceited but dang, I looked hot! I had a purple blouse that was tucked into a black bodycon skirt that was mid-thigh length. The skirt hugged my curves in all the right places. My hair was just blow dried and straightened, so it looks nice and full of body and volume. To finish off my outfit, I wore my black high heel ankle boots. I did a full 360 before grabbing my purple backpack (y'all can probably guess that my favorite is purple) and making sure I had my schedule and other stuff in it.
"Cedes, hurry up!" Alee yelled again. I sensed a bit of annoyance in her voice. I couldn't help but laugh.
"Ok, ok gosh I'm coming." I said while walking down the stairs. I looked at Alee's outfit. "Dang girl you look hot!"
Alee had a high-waisted pink and white skirt with a white long sleeve shirt. She also had a pink scarf and white flats. Her hair had been curled too. Her outfit hugged her curves just like mine. Alee and I were alike in so many ways, people really thought we were sisters. We both had a caramel complexion, armpit length hair, were tall, and our facial features were somewhat similar in a way. Our names are actually alike too. My first name is Alina, but I go by my middle name, Mercedes.
"Thanks girl, so do you." She said with a smile.
"Thank ya. Are you ready to rumble on our first day of JUNIOR YEAR?!" I said all excited as we walked out the door to my car.
"You're so crazy haha, but heck yea girl!" She laughed. "Are you ready to see some hot guys??"
"Yes!"
"Are you ready to flirt with them to the extreme?!"
"Yea, yea!!" I said like a little kid wanting candy.
"Especially AUSTIN??"
"YE - hold up uh-uh we're just friends Alee." I said seriously.
"You guys are way more than 'just friends'. I've seen the way he looks at you." She giggled as she got in the passenger seat.
"Ok ya, we are more than friends. We're BEST friends. That's it. And he doesn't look at me in any special way." I tried to deny it, but I knew Alee was right about the way Austin looks a me.
"Mhm whatever you say Mercedes. He likes you. That's a reason why he bought you those diamond earrings. You like him too, I can see it in your eyes."
I tried to laugh it off, but the look on her face meant that she was dead serious.
"Alee, he's just being a good friend."
We were in the school parking lot by then and I saw Austin standing by his car. He noticed my car and me practically staring at him and waved and flashed a smile.
"Cedes, tell me the truth, please. Do you like Austin?"
I looked at Alee and she had the puppy eyes that I always hated because I couldn't lie with them practically looking into my soul.
"Yes." I said quietly.
"Yes? Oh my gosh Mercedes! Do you know what this means?"
I covered my ears because she was screaming so loud that other people were looking into my car to see what was going on.
"No, what?"
"It doesn't have to be a secret anymore! Oo date him please!!"
"Alee, can we stop talking about this right now? I mean, Austin's right there."
"Ugh fine."
We got out of the car and I heard Austin call my name.
