Austin's POV

I was walking with Mercedes to the seats in the back when I heard someone call my name.

"Hey Austin what's up? You been good man?" It was my boy Reggie. I haven't seen him all summer because I was at a basketball camp.

"What's up Reggie?" We did our man hug. "Yeah I've been alright. How was your summer?"

"It was alright. I didn't get to hang out with my bro though. How was that camp?" He sounded a little uninterested.

"It was great, can't wait for basketball season to start. Star point guard in the house!" I said cockily, but joking.

"Yeah, whatever man. You know coach is going to make me captain this year, right?"

"Who told you that?" I asked.

"No one. I just know. I mean, I am the best on the team." Reggie said, full of cockiness. I waited for him to say just kidding or something, but he was dead serious.

"Uhh alright man we'll see about that." I said awkwardly, trying not to laugh at his crazy statement. He glared at me.

"So, have you seen the ladies today?" He asks, changing the subject. He's referring to Mercedes, Aleeyah and their two other friends. "They're looking good."

I looked at Mercedes. "Yeah man, looking real good."

Reggie followed my gaze.

Reggie's POV

Aw hell no. I know Austin ain't looking at Cedes. I thought he was over her, I thought to myself.

Then I noticed Mercedes was staring at Austin but looked away real fast when she noticed him looking at her. I hope this isn't what I think it is. I still like Mercedes, a lot.

Just as I was about to say something, the bell rings. I take a seat by my other friend as I watch Austin sit behind Cedes and lean up to whisper in her ear. Mercedes turns towards him and giggles. I know they're best friends, but they're getting a little too close for my taste. I was gonna ask Cedes if she wanted to go to the movies with me Saturday, but I think Austin's still ain't over her. Aww well, imma still ask her out whether he like it or not.

I couldn't help but glance over every time I heard Mercedes laugh. I can't believe I'm getting this jealous over some girl.

But she was more than just some girl, she was something special.

When the bell rang, I walk out of class and lean on the wall across from it to wait for Mercedes. She comes out with Austin's hand around her shoulder. Alright, that's it, imma stop this right now.

Mercedes' POV

I walk out of class with Austin's arm around my shoulder. I don't know what's gotten into him today, he's never been so affectionate towards me. He kept whispering in my ear all class and I couldn't help but laugh the whole time.

"So, what class you got next? I wanna walk you there." Austin asks me.
"Spanish I'II, you?"
"Oh, I got History." He said sadly.
Spanish and History classes were on opposites sides of the building, so there was no way he could walk me and still get to class on time.

"Aww that sucks. I don't want you to be late to class." I said sadly.

"I could still walk you if you want me to. I couldn't care less if I'm late." He says with a smile. His smile is so sexy, I can't help but smile back. But just as I'm about reply, Reggie cuts me off.

"Hey Cedes, I'll walk you to class. Don't want my boy to be late, do ya?" He says getting in between us and scooting me away from Austin with his arm around my waist.

"Uhh, no but aren't you gonna be late too?" I said, trying to pry his arm off my waist.

He let go and looked me up and down. I couldn't help but feel a little uncomfortable.

"Nah, I got French, so it's in the same direction. I'll walk her to class Austin." He said assuringly.

Austin looks at me questionably and I nod saying it was ok. He turns around and walks to his class.

Reggie's POV

Finally we're alone, I thought to myself. Cedes looked beautiful today, I couldn't help but stare. I guess she felt a little uncomfortable, so I stopped. She didn't talk for a while, so I decided to break the silence and make an attempt to ask her out.

"So, I haven't seen you in a while. We should hang out one day."

Mercedes looked at me and smiled brightly. She has a beautiful smile. "Yeah, we should catch up. I miss my buddy." She playfully elbows me. Cedes and I were best friends during her sophomore year and my junior year, but then I started to have a crush on her and I wanted to be more than friends. She didn't feel too comfortable about that, so we kind of just stopped talking after a while.

I laughed. "I missed you too. Hey, how about we go watch a movie. Do you like scary movies?"
I tried so hard not to sound nervous, but I think she noticed.

"Surprisingly yes, even though I get scared easily." She laughed.

I laugh with her and nervously said, "Well I was thinking, maybe you would want to go with me to see Paranormal Activity 3."

I slowly looked at Cedes, and she was looking away with her thinking face. Oh god she's gonna say no.
"Umm, sure. When?" She said after much thought.
"Yes!" I thought to myself. "Saturday at 8." I replied with a smile. We stopped in front of her class.
"Ok, see you." She said with her beautiful smile.
Just as she's about to walk into class, I lean in and kiss her cheek. When I look at her, I notice her blushing.
"See you." I said. Then I walked to my class, which was across the hall.
