Is Lindsay One of Charles Manson’s Girls?

Lindsay Lohan is anything but predictable. After her most recent stint in rehab, however, Lindsay has decided to get back on the film star track as one of the Manson family in the upcoming flick "Manson’s Girls". Sources say that the troubled actress is up for the challenge.

"Yes, I am doing it with Lindsay," said film producer Brad Wyman.

Lohan will portray Nancy Pitman in the film, a young woman who was caught under Manson’s spell during the height of the Svengali’s reign in the early 1970s. Manson, who was touted by his followers as "Man’s Son" (aka Jesus), formed and led a commune that become internationally known after his "family" broke into record producer Terry Melcher’s home and brutally murdered five people, including a pregnant Sharon Tate. At the time of the murders, Tate was the wife of legendary film director Roman Polanski.

Pitman, known as Brenda to her other Manson family members, fled from her wealthy Malibu, California home at age 16 to be with Manson. According to sources, Pitman was involved in the brutal slayings at the Melcher home - although no one is quite sure about the extent of the girl’s involvement. It was proven that Pitman was at the site of the murders and was eventually charged with criminal conspiracy and accessory after the fact for removing evidence from the crime scene. She served 18 months in prison for her role in the act. Pitman continued her radical behavior by joining the Aryan Brotherhood. She eventually married one of her co-conspirators and set up housekeeping in Oregon, where she is the mother of two children.

Charles Manson was originally sentenced to death after being convicted of masterminding a series of ghastly murders. The former cult leader, now 73, had his sentence reduced to first degree murder after California abolished the death penalty. There is still a great deal of discord surrounding the charges, since many followers claim that Manson never actually killed anyone. Still, there is no chance that the man will ever see the light of day again.

The journey into film noir seems to be a fairly new but familiar path for Lindsay. She recently completed "Chapter 27", a film focused on the life of John Lennon’s assassin Mark David Chapman.

Some say that the leap into serious dramatic roles may be just what the doctor ordered for Lindsay. Not everyone is thrilled by this new venture, however, particularly Lindsay’s father, Michael.

"I really hope that Lindsay gets back to the kinds of films that led to her success," Michael Lohan told UsMagazine.com. "When you're the kind of star Lindsay is, you have to appeal to a general audience, not just a specific audience. I'd like to see her do more mainstream films."

Michael Lohan’s concern may be justified, but perhaps for a different reason. Lindsay had previously admitted to being fascinated with Manson. She proclaims to have gone through a "dark period" before entering rehab in 2007 for alcohol and drug addiction.

"Yeah, I have a dark side," she said. "I watched all those videos on Charles Manson for a while."
