Is It The End (Part 5, The Final Strike) Section 1/2
It has been years since the bomb has gone off. David and Amy have gone their separate ways, and James is left in the military. Everything seems to be going fine in training until yet another explosion goes off around him, but from where? As James survives another explosion, he finds Amy and David, and with their minds, they might finally uncover and finish what could be the end of the world. Or what could be the end of a very important life.
For those who were with Amy, James, and David until the end.
It's hard to believe that over the years people's image of life can be messed up to this extent. Why do people lie? To get out of what is coming to them? Why is there murder? Is it because people hate? I asked this question so many times before, yet the answers that I search for will never be found. What would this world be like if everyone actually cared? Or is it just God trying to get back at us for the wrong that this world has done. The things that I concerned, but yet I lost? Is that why I went to war? It was not to see the vista of the land for sure, because all you see in war is what I consider "hell on earth". So when is Jesus coming back? Or did he leave us. It's hard to believe that only 3 years ago a nuclear bomb went off that split family's, and killed many innocent people. I have not seen my friends for years. After fighting to find out my future, after the bomb that almost wiped the face of the earth, and now I am in the military fighting for the freedom that no longer exists. Still looking for the friends that I lost, but knowing deep inside that I might never see them again. So now what?
As I look around, I can see mountains, beautiful flowers in a garden. It seems the wind is perfect flowing through the grass. Everything is perfect, but how could it be. The very thought that is going through my mind seemed to bring me to the realization that this is hell. The scene changed: There are burning trees, people screaming because there flesh is smoldering in the heat. I start yelling as the hands of death grasped me, and everything went white.
My eyes flicker open to see the image of a white ceiling. It took a few seconds to see where I was. A few ticks later I heard the usual beep as the alarm screams for its daily attention. I could never sleep right up till when the alarm beeps. "Let's move it men, up and at'em." I heard my sergeant yell. I drug myself out of a spring, worn out bed. Otherwise known as heaven after a long day of training. getting dressed, and taking a showers, you would find yourself eating five star foods in the cafeteria. We always sat in the same view of the cafeteria. After the usual breakfast, you would find yourself running a mile, then an obstacle course. Before you know it, you're starting another day to repeat the cycle. You can say that after a while of the same thing over again, you wonder when you can do the real thing. When you will get your turn and fight. When do we actually serve our country? I am tired of waiting. I want to serve. Maybe soon, too soon.
"James, James," I heard from what seemed to be miles away.
"Wha- Oh, what," I answered the voice.
"You look like you're dying, what's up," The voice asked. I turned around to see Leo sitting there. I have known Leo since first grade. We decided that we would go to college together. Unfortunately, we didn't quite get that far. Leo was not someone you would find studying for tests. He was one of those people that gives up at the slightest touch of work. It was a different story when he joined the military. He wanted a chance to serve his country, although he regretted it the first day assigned.
"You look down, what's up," Leo asked yet again.
"Nothing. Just the last couple of weeks I have been thinking about my friends. David and Amy. I just don't know what happened to them," I said.
"Well, just concentrate on what you are doing now," He answered. I knew that I have to look at the present, and forget what happened in the past, but it was not going to be easy. I am determined to find them. I have to know if there alive, or otherwise dead. I sat down to get ready for training.
"Lets go men," I heard a yell. It took a few heartbeats to find out that it was still twilight. Why were they getting us up early? My question was answered when I heard the alarm. Not the usual 'time to get up' alarm, but 'get out of bed, and fight' alarm. I jumped out of bed and put on anything that I could grab. As I make my way outside I can hear the sound of guns firing. The echo of men screaming. The first thing that came to my head was to find Leo. Finally after what seemed to be hours, or maybe just a few minutes, I saw him standing there, looking in shock.
"LEO, what's going on," I yelled. He just stood there. What was he doing, trying to get shot. Then I looked down at his chest to see his hand covered in blood.
"LEO," I yelled, as if my yelling could save him. He had a blank look in his face, and after only a few seconds that seemed like years, he fell to the ground. Blood running from his mouth.
"NO, I NEED A MEDIC OVER HERE," I yelled at the night sky. I knew that no one was around to answer. This was not an organized battle. Who expected an attack at our very own base? I looked down, watching my friend die. he was dead before another cry left my very lips. I got up, blood stained on my hands and shirt. I told myself that everything was going to be OK, even though it wasn't going to be okay.
I had to find my squad. Everything was so spread out. People running all over, shooting at whatever they could hit. Before I could even take another look around, the world seemed to stop; then out of nothing, there was a flash, and an explosion that was like nothing I ever heard before. I felt my feet leave the ground, and pain in my side, then everything went black.
Was this what death is supposed to feel like. I thought that after you die there was no pain. I thought that death was supposed to be perfect; at least that was what I was told by many people. Or was I dead. I opened my eyes, or tried to. I could tell that I was not going to be walking for a while. I looked around. I could see nothing but scrapes of metal. How was I supposed to survive something like this? The bomb destroyed everything in sight. There was nothing left, and I was the only human survivor for miles, or even more. What was I supposed to do. One thing for sure, I need to get up and start walking. Who knows when the enemy will come? Then it hit me, who exactly was the enemy. I never even saw the face of the enemy before the explosion. Something can't be right, there is no way a normal human could wipe out a whole camp in seconds.
It seemed like hours of walking. Not knowing what way I was actually going, I just walked. Spending days walking, and nights trying to sleep. The feeling of unease was developing in me. But I kept walking, not thinking what could happen. What was going to happen. Passing body's of the dead, but not stopping to look. There was nothing to be done for them, and it would be a waste to see who was or wasn't dead. It was starting to get dark again, so I figured I should set up some kind of camp. Sleeping might be impossible, but at least I could sit down. After a long day of walking, and the stress and anxiety of not knowing where I was going, I could take it all out of my mind, and relax. Then I heard talking. A woman and man, talking in English. They had to be on my side, and I had to find them. But what if it was a trap, what if I walk to them and die. Yet I could not help but get up. This could not be evil. I walked cautiously, afraid of hearing a shot fired, but no shot came. "wh-Who there," I hard a male voice ask. I walked closer. If this was a trap, they had enough time to shoot me, yet no shot came. "Hello," I said cautiously. No answer, what was going on. Then a flashlight shined In my face. "JAMES," I heard a familiar voice yell. A voice I was hoping, praying I would hear.
David was standing there. I could tell it was him, even though he was much taller and thinner. There was a sparkle in his eye. Amy standing next to him, the biggest smile on her face I have ever seen.
"David, is that you?" I asked, as If It would confirm that it was really him.
"uh, I think," David said with his usual smile on his face.
"Where have you been," I asked, hardly breathing.
"Well, we have been around. Camping out at the little safe areas that we find. What happened , we heard gunfire, and then an explosion," Amy asked.
"I thought it was a nuke, what was it," I asked Amy.
"I don't know. The explosion came from the ground. Whatever caused it was there before," Amy answered.
"But that's impossible, the camp was only built a few years ago, we should know everything about it," I said.
"Well, you must have missed something. There is no way that it came from the sky. And it was not a nuke, because there is no extreme aftereffect."
I knew exactly what Amy was saying, the bomb was ready for us. Whoever detonated the explosion was ready for us. This was not a matter of being unfortunate. How many more bombs were ready for us, and how do we stop it. At that moment in time, nothing mattered. After all that has gone wrong, I found David and Amy, and that was all that matter now. So now what do we do? In good time, we will find out, but for now, enjoy the present.
Amy, David and I have been camping for two weeks already. Trying to figure out how to end this. We made no progress until one night, when Amy jumped up, and looked like she was about to have a fit.
"I figured it out," Amy yelled dramatically. "the only way to end this war is to shut down the system core,"
"OK Amy, stop the geek talk, and speak English," David said seriously.
"Fine, The bomb is controlled by a main system core, or in your language, a computer. This computer connects the bombs, and by a simple click, the bombs goes off. There is also satellite that is looking in on each of the desired targets. So When the most troops are at the military camp, they set the bomb off. Got it?" Amy demanded.
"First, how do you explain the shooting. You don't shot at explosions Amy," I said sarcastically.
"Well, I'm not sure about that, I know there was something they were shooting at. It can't be the military, because that would be a suicide mission. Whatever it was, it can be shutdown by the system core," Amy answered, looking a little less convinced herself.
"Alright, I'm going with your theory for now, only because it is the only one we have. So where do you think the core is?" I asked, half smiling.
"Here, close to here. There is a cave about four or five miles away. That would be the perfect place," Amy said, her confidence gaining.
"So how did you find this out," David asked.
"I was in that area, and I saw people walking in and out. No David, they were not tourists," Amy said, hushing David. "It occurred to me that there probably not be any tourists out at this present time. So what was going on. So I walk inside, and I heard this fan. Like a PC fan to cool the PC. That has to be it."
"I don't think she is lying James. Anyway, what else do we got, let's give it a shot," David said, now looking convinced.
"Fine. But how do we get there. I don't think walking is going to help. So how-" "Obviously we drive. There is a car parked down the road, we will just have to use that. But sitting here is not going to help us, so let's get going," Amy said. We walked for what seemed hours, but only could be a couple of seconds. As the aroma of ash passed us, we thought about what is going to come. What are we going to do once we find what we are looking for. We finally found the car, and before anything else could happen. We got back on the road, just like old times. Not much was said as we made our way to what could be the last sight we would ever see. I guess after years of not seeing each other, you lose the urge to talk to them. Like something split.
"Alright, I think this is the place," Amy said, waking me up from a trance that was never ending. " Oh. What do you see Amy," I asked.
"There was a few people heading in. Whatever is going on is in there," Amy answered lost in thought.
"We can't just storm in there and start killing people," David said.
"I didn't say that."
"OK. We need to do something," I said, looking worried.
"How about a-"
"No, we don't have time for a plain, we have to get going," I said seriously. You could see the disagreement in Amy's face as we got out of the car. Not sure what to expect, we walked over to the cave. Inside the cave, there was nothing but dark. Taking a deep breath, I motioned at David and Amy, and we started walking into the darkness.
We could have been walking for an hour, or a couple of days. Finally there was a light. I was not sure how far away it was, or if going that way was a good idea. Somehow, I could feel that I was going the right way. "Amy, what do we do when we find, um, whatever it is we are looking for," I asked.
"The reading that I've done, we need go to the system core. There is a virus on the flash drive that I brought, which will upload right away when plugged in. Now, if something goes wrong, the virus will leave a copy on the PC, that will be reactivating after a curtain amount of time."
"Nicely done, but where is the system core," I asked
After the never ending walk, the light filled our eyes. It took a few seconds for our eyes to adjust. Finally, I looked around. As I looked, I felt like my world was spinning. The room was huge. Computer system all over the room. "The core has to be here somewhere," Amy said.
"Yes, it might be here. Why are there no people here?" David questioned.
"I'm not sure, but I think this is completely computer controlled. It seems that computers control the system core computer," Amy said looking confident.
"That's great, computers building other computers," David said.
"Anyway. Something else is created here. The thing that was attacking your base James, you didn't get a look of what it was?" Amy asked.
"No. Whatever it was, it was not big, but it was still powerful. Whatever was shooting at the base is controlled from here. Now the problem is that we don't the security of this place," Amy said looking around.
"There's only one way to find out," David said. We nodded in agreement and again, started to walk. There were hundreds of rooms. Who knows how many computers designed to do a special task? How did America now know about this? Or did they? Was this place always there, and a terrorist group took it over, and is this the cause of the bomb. So now what? We had to have a plain. "OK, where now?" David asked. Not a second after he said that, I felt a sharp blow over my head. The pain was like nothing I have ever felt before. I could fell blood running down my head as I stood there, then everything went black. There was nothing. Suddenly I saw a light, it was a bright light, and I was compelled to go to it. It had to be good. As I walk closer to the light, I felt a small breeze on my skin, a pleasant breeze. What is this place? Then a person showed up, as white as snow. "Where am I" I asked the mysterious person.
"Well I person don't know, you made this place," The person in white said.
"OK, this is making no since, am I dead?" I asked.
"In your mind, yes, but in real life, I think now," He reveled.
"So what am I doing here," I asked. "I brought you here. James, you are chosen to help stop this computer program. You have a responsibility to keep. Stop holding out." The guy said.
"Why me, why would a normal person like me be chosen,"
"A normal person, you saw the nuke that was going to go off many years ago. You saved your friends and yourself for a reason. You are to stop the attack on earth. Those people who you were fighting with so many years ago are controlled by this machine. You have a responsibility to shut it down,"
"I understand, but who are you, and how do you know me," I asked.
"Are you kidding, I made you," And the person disappeared. I understood what I am supposed to do. I was supposed to stop a nuclear war on earth. I have to go back. Yes, this place was no pain, no suffering, but I still had to leave. I finally understood everything. This place will come. I will end up in this place when I die, but for now, it is time to finish this. It is time to run.
Out of all this, I knew one thing for sure, that there was a God. All those years rebelling against the idea of a God, trying to prove it wrong, I found out through a vision. Now that I knew there was a God and he was by my side, maybe I could finally see clearly what I am supposed to do. Rather I die trying or succeed, I don't have to fear it. Death is good, and nothing but good can come from death. As I stood up, looking at the structure, I motioned at David and Amy, and we starting walking into what could be death itself.
