Is it the end (part 1)
Three teens deal with something that no one ever thought will happen, a nuclear war. What does James, David and Amy do now that the end of the world, or as they thought, is coming.
School, same everywhere you go. You’ve got the geeks, nerds, preps, jocks, idiots, and the emos. It is all just a click. Of course, the emos are always the ones that are outcasts. My best friends are David, and Amy. David is a game freak, and doesn’t fit into any group. Amy is an emo, and well, fits into that group. We call ourselves the freaks. It is funny really. David is always talking about bombs, death and games. Amy, well, usually just moving out of her parents house.
"James, get up, you need to be at school at eight" my mother yelled. "If I had my stupid permit, then I could drive myself to school, and you would not have to worry about it"! I yelled. "You better watch it, or you are going to make life difficult for yourself". My mother said in a warning voice. "Yeah, I wander what it would be like to have a difficult life!" By the time we got to school and got my stuff together, we were late, again. My first period teacher, Ms. Dublore, is not the kind of person that you want to get into a bad mood. "Well, nice of you to join us" the teacher said, with an evil smile on her face. "Alright class, before we start, I want to ask you what is fifty time twelve to the power of thirteen-""you wont believe what happened, Amy, I got an Xbox 360 last-""-but it looks like James has an answer, tell me James, what is the answer?" "I think, I don’t know"! James said; his temper so close to the edge these days, was rising again. "Well, looks like we got another genus in our class" said Ben, an idiot in our class. I just ignored him. I found out the best way to stay out of a fight was knock them out first, but the best way to stay in school is just to ignore that person. The whole lesson was slow. The time, slow, the teacher, slow, the stupid dog outside, slow. Once I got out of that class, I went to second period, which was English. Finally, a class I understand. English is what I was made to do! I usually write poetry, or read a book, or sleep when I have all my work done. "By the way Amy, where’s David"? I asked. "Don’t know, he’s probably at home playing a game or watching porn on TV". Amy said half laughing. "Oh, ha ha, funny. Like his parents keep magazines in the house, and cable doesn’t have anything on but news, which nobody could give a crap about, well, except for those ‘wanna be’ adults-" "Don’t go on with your lecture about the news," Amy interrupted. Surprisingly, the English teachers, Mr. Froke, let use do whatever we wanted in writing. Write stories, poetry, or just sit and throw spitballs at Ben. "Hay Amy, what do you think about starting a band"? I asked hopefully. "Well, I don’t know, I just don’t think I can sing, I mean, I’m an artist, no Jon, not for that, drawing." She said. I have always dreamed of starting a band, I just don’t know what to sing. A teenage life is SO hard. "Alright everyone, for homework, do pages 507 and 508. One through six. Or James, if you want, you can whip me up some poetry." Said Mr. Froke hopefully. "Yeah sure; it is better then sitting downstairs and acting like I want to watch the news." I said, in a boring voice. "James, you could use that excuse to play the 360." Amy suggested. "For once, you’re thinking like me, and you still have a four point one million." I said. The rest of the day was surprisingly good, except for gym of course. That night, I called David to see why he wasn’t at school. He said that he just wanted some more sleep, right. His Parents were really stupid. They think that James is the kind of person that would never break the rules. He always told his parents that he was sick, just to stay home and play games. He never did homework, he just sat there. James and I never did our homework. I guess we always had better things to do. The only way me and David was able to get through there homework and turn it in on time, was that Amy helped them. Amy was that really smart, 4.0 students that everyone is scared of. "Amy, guess what, your wont believe it," "what," Amy grunted. "I like gum!" David said, laughing. "Thanks for the info, the next time that I buy gum I will think of you." Amy said. About the time that school was over, everyone was looking like they were up all night. I actually ran into a door, surprisingly.
I slept on the ride home, well tried, somebody on the bus tried to put something in my hair. The only problem was that Amy was right there, and threw a book at them. "I really miss too much, I mean, I always wanted to see him get hit with a book. I would throw a desk at him, but unfortunately, I don’t have one in my pocket," I said. "Well, it happens. Do you think that you can come over Saturday," Amy said as she handed me some chips. "Oh, darn, I forgot we were not supposed to eat on the bus," Amy said. "You know, you really like to break the bus rules, what do you have against her?" ask David. Amy did not answer; she just sat there, looking the other way. She seems to be lost in her own thoughts. The rest of the ride home was quite, except for some of the Jr. High in the back, which kept saying ‘trees’. I finally turned around and told them to shut up. I guess it is just another day at school.
The next week was ok, I guess I won a new computer online, and then it came to my house, broken, so I took it back. "Dude, David, hello, you in there," I said, seeing that David is staring out in space. "Uh, oh, yeh, I’m here, I think, what, you called," he asked? "Yes, did you get the history homework done?" I asked. "Yeh, why?" he said in a bored way. "Well, can I use it, didn’t get mine done," I commanded. "Sure", David said lamely. I usually never get my homework done. I still pass!
Once you are in school for about a month, times go by fast, people go by fast, that dog outside is going fast (ha ha). That night, I had the oddest dream. It all started with a giant hotdog chasing me. Then of course, like all good dreams, you eat the hotdog. Then it changed, I was looking at something, at first, I could not make it out, it looked like a mushroom. Then it hit me, a nuclear bomb, the kind you see a mushroom cloud, I started to run. Something kept telling me that if I wanted to stop death, then I had to get to the army’s bomb shelter, I went, the bomb went off, and I woke up. I found myself on the ground, sweating and shaking all over, what was going on. This was a dream James, a dream. But what if it wasn’t! No, it is just a dream, but what if it is really going to happen. I found myself arguing to myself, it was wired, but the dream meant something, something bad, a sign of death. I had to call Amy. I ran and got the telephone. "Amy, is that you!" I said in a shaken voice. "ya-yah, do you know what time it is!" Amy yelled. I looked over at the clock; it said 2:30am. " I just had a dream-" "congrats, I will put you in the paper," Amy interrupted. "Would you shut up and listen, I had a dream. I started off as a giant marshmallow or muffin or something like that, and then it changed. I was looking at something, I could not make it out at first, but then I recognized it, it was a mushroom cloud, you know, the ones that you see when a nuke goes off, I think that it is going to happen today, a nuclear world war" "wait" Amy interrupted again. "you are telling me that you think we are all doomed. Have you been watching horror movies again?" Amy asked. "NO!" I burst out. "ok James, lets just drop it now, I have a test today, and I am NOT going to fail it, can you just shut-up and hang up the phone before you hurt yourself," "WOULD YOU STOP ACTING LIKE THIS IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. IF WE DON’T DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS, THEN, HELLO, AMY, ARE YOU THERE, FINE!" I yelled, slamming the phone down. Why would she not believe me, why can’t anyone believe me? I have to get people to know.
About three hours later, I went to school. I was still shaken, trying to tell myself that this was all fake; it was not going to happen. I went through the day, oddly quite. Not talking to anyone, not even David or Amy. I know deep inside that it was going to happen. I did not want to accept it, I could not accept it. "Amy, sorry about this morning," I said, feeling it was best to just drop it. "Alright, just don’t watch Freddy before you go to bed, ok," She said. "Fine" About an hour in to the day, I forgot that I had that dream. We got on the bus at three like every day. It was a quite ride home. I was trying to sleep, but like always, the Jr. High was at it again, arguing and yelling the word trees. I have no idea why somebody would want to do that. Then all the sudden, I looked out the window; there it was, in full view, just like my dream, the cloud, the cloud that was going to kill millions, the death cloud, the nuke. Everyone looked out the window and started to scream, the bus came to a screeching halt, we ran out. Wait, in my dream, I was close to the army base, were the bomb shelter was. "AMY, AMY, come here, we have to get to the army base, don’t worry about the others, in my dream, I went to the base and I went into a bomb shelter, where’s David," I asked. "What-no- WERE GOING TO DIE!" Amy yelled. "Would you shut up for a second? Just find David and let’s get out of here," I said, trying to act calm. We found David, looking like he was going to faint. We ran to the army base, about five minuets from where we were. We found the bomb shelter, perhaps out of relief. "GET IN NOW," I yelled. "GET IN AND GET DOWN." "JAMES, WH-WHATS HAPPONING," Amy said in a terrified voice. "JUST GET IN AND GE-." I herd it. The rumble. The bomb was heading our way. "EVERONE GET THE HELL IN," I yelled. We got in. It was all dark. We got down and just listened outside. There were explosions of cars, building. We could hear people running away, screaming for safety. We could hear bloody scream of people, dying, tearing up within inside. I had to get out there and help them, but I know that it was too late. Suddenly the ground started to shake. Whatever was happening, it was not good. Then, suddenly, something hit me on the head and I was out, cold.
"James, JAMES," I heard David yell. "wh-what happened, and why and the, my head HURTS," I burst out. "Its all right, everything is ok, both me and Amy are fine," David said. I could tell in his voice, that he know, and we all know, that something was wrong. I heard a noise on the roof. "Is that someone, were saved?" I asked. "No, it is just the rain," David said. "The rai- WERES AMY, IS SHE OUTSIDE!" I yelled. "No, she is over in the corner trying to sleep," David said calmly. "Listen David, we CAN’T go outside. Radiation, it is something that the science teacher s-" then it hit me. Were everyone? Is everyone dead, or did they escape the horrible death? "James, what should we do?" he asked. "I don’t know, we have to wait until the rain stops before we go outside for a start. Do we have a stupid flashlight?" I asked. "I found one, but I am saving the batteries," David said. I looked over were Amy was sleeping. However she could sleep at this time was unknown to me, and I probably will never figure it out. "Listen James, I used my phone, no signal, we will have to go and find someone to help soon," David told me. "James, David, are you ok," Amy asked, having woke up. "Yes, fine, you?" I asked. "Yes, well, no, I don’t know. A nuke just went off and thousands probably just died, yeh, I feel FINE?" Amy snapped. "Amy, would you cool it," I said. "Both of you, we can not go outside for any reason, know matter what. You must not get any of that water on you, ok," I commanded. I don’t know how long we were in that place, but it seemed like years. The rain was just not stopping, it kept going and going. Then it stopped, I sat there, making sure, and then I went outside. Everything was gone. There was nothing left. Just smoke, some water on the ground, and fire. I was not about to leave that place. What was happening?
