Is It Normal to Miss a Period
Pregnancy alone cannot justify whether a missed period is normal or not. If you're one of those luckless females who aren't able to savor the 28-day menstrual cycle, you definitely need to learn what can cause you to miss a period for such a long duration!

Missed Period but Not Pregnant
Take a home pregnancy test. If it's negative, you aren't pregnant. However, you've missed your period, and pregnancy, certainly isn't the cause. For a missed period but negative pregnancy test, unless and until you aren't pregnant (home pregnancy tests are 97% accurate), it is your hormonal changes that are to be held responsible for you having missed a period. Think about it, have you gained or lost weight all of a sudden lately? Are you a dupe of excessive stress? Has your lifestyle changed a manifold? If your life is unaltered, is it normal? To miss a period is certainly okay in this case, and you need not worry. Thank God for you aren't pregnant (without your will, of course), and this is the end of the line.
Irregular Periods and Birth Control
If you are on birth control pills, irregular periods are a common occurrence. However, that doesn't mean you stop consuming birth control pills totally. If you've missed two periods in a row, even after you're consuming birth control pills, perhaps, it's time you visit your health care provider and take a pregnancy test. Stopping birth control pill consumption may lead to positive results in pregnancy test. Hence, it is always advisable to keep taking birth control pills, and it is absolutely common to miss a period or have extremely light flow while you're on the course.
However, if by chance, you've stopped consuming birth control pills, you need to assure yourself with the help of your health care provider. After stopping birth control, the constant hormone level that has suppressed ovulation successfully so far, stops all of a sudden. Hence, it is again upon your body to start its own hormonal production, which may take some time to regain its usual tendency and pace. Note that there are hundreds of thousands of eggs in the ovaries which are ready to mature. In this case, they need some time before your first new ovulation, after you've stopped consuming birth control pills. This generally doesn't happen very frequently, but even if it does, it doesn't render any health troubles.
Women often curse unplanned pregnancy as the ultimate cause. However, you need to look beyond it, and learn that there are a number of reasons why you've missed your period a particular month. Reduce your stress, try to adjust with your current lifestyle, stop wondering in distress as missing a period is certainly okay, but should definitely be taken account of.
