Is Global Warming a Hoax?

Over the last few weeks, global warming has been making the headlines for some wrong reasons, which have left people wondering is global warming a hoax. Continue reading to know more about the evidence for and against global warming...
Global warming is one of the most serious problems the world is facing today. It is, in fact, threatening the basic survival of several life forms on the planet. The extreme weather we are experiencing today is in itself a major evidence that global warming is happening, but not all the people out there seem to be convinced. A significant part of the population is still not able to figure out whether is global warming a hoax or is global warming really happening?

Is Global Warming a Hoax?

In spite of the evidence that goes to support global warming, there are many who are still of the opinion that global warming is a hoax. However, global warming myths and facts, if studied, shows that global warming is indeed happening. The following are the major arguments that help decide if global warming is fact or fiction.

Arguments Against Global Warming
The arguments put forth by global warming skeptics revolve around two aspects - unreliability of the data and previous climate changes. They argue that most of the data which suggests that the planet is threatened by global warming is based on mere assumptions. The only reliable source of data is the satellites based in space, and these satellites which monitor the climate of the entire planet don't give any evidence of climate change in the lower troposphere. On the other hand, the data collected by sources on the Earth is subjected to alteration due to several reasons, including the presence of industries nearby and human error.

Arguments against global warming also stress on the fact that the atmosphere-ocean dynamics are quite unpredictable, and hence it is difficult to predict the detailed evolution of weather in the future. The computerized climatic models that are used to predict the climate trend in future are too crude to be trusted. Global warming skeptics also believe that the expenses that are being incurred on various global warming solutions, in the absence of any concrete evidence of global warming, would be futile and result in heavy loss for the developing as well as the developed countries. And lastly, if at all the global temperatures rise by modest amounts; it would be beneficial for us in several ways. The growing season will be prolonged, we will have more usable land and warmer winters will mean safer climate.

Evidences of Global Warming
So is global warming a hoax? In spite of the arguments above, there is a lot of evidence to that supports the existence of global warming as well, that somehow skeptics have decided to turn a blind eye to or ignore. Average global temperatures have increased by 1 degree Fahrenheit over the last 100 years. This is evident by the study of air bubbles trapped in polar ice. According to NASA, the last decade was the warmest decade ever experienced. Glaciers at high altitudes and ice sheets in polar region are melting rapidly. Melting glaciers and polar ice is causing sea water to rise, which in turn is threatening the low lying areas with a watery grave. The sinking of Maldives is perhaps one of the best example of the danger posed by the encroaching sea. Sources of drinking water are also hampered as a result of melting of the glaciers at high altitude. Loss of habitat is driving animals to extinction. Polar bears and the Arctic fox have been forced to migrate to the North Pole in search of a suitable habitat. These global warming effects on Earth make it quite obvious that global warming is not a hoax.

If someone is not convinced even after going through all this evidence, then it is absolutely impossible to change his mindset which is hell-bent on proving that global warming is a myth. A rise in our body temperature is an indicator of something being wrong with our body. So a rise in the temperature of the planet would naturally be an indicator of something being wrong with the planet. The earlier we diagnose it, the better it will be for us.
