The green plants obtain energy from sunlight and convert it into sugar. This sugar is converted into starch; granules of starch are formed and stored in the grains of plants. The process of conversion from sugar to starch takes place with the help of enzymes.
Cornstarch
The starch obtained from the corn kernel i.e. its endosperm is referred to as cornstarch. Thomas Kingsford isolated the cornstarch in the year, 1840. Earlier, the starch obtained from corn was used only for industrial purposes and laundry use. This starch find use in the preparation of liquid-based foods; it is used as a thickening agent in the preparation of these items.
Vegetable
The vegetables are those plants in which the leaves or other vegetative parts (stem, root) are used for edible purpose. Reproductive part of the plant is not consumed as vegetable. Corn grains cannot be termed as a vegetable according to the above description. This is because the edible part of this plant is the grains produced on cobs. Grains are actually fruits and therefore, the reproductive part of this plant.
