Iron Chef Contest
‘Iron chef contest’ is a Japanese cooking show produced by Fuji TV. This show was premiered on television in 1993.
Iron chef contest is a stylized cooking contest and it features the accomplished chefs and guests who challenge the show’s resident "Iron Chef" in a timed cooking with a themed ingredient that has to be used in all the dishes that are prepared. This series aired 300 episodes and finally ended in the year 1999.
The same kind of show was aired in America called "Iron Chef USA" in 2001, but it did not do well as it was not focused on cooking and the audience yelled relentlessly more like a sports audience. The host Shanter walked around the kitchen focusing on more expensive items, and the chefs in the show refused to explain what they were doing. But in 2004 the "Iron Chef America" which was hosted by Alton Brown got a very good rating, and is doing good as it has all the excitement in the show as the "Iron chef Contest" Japanese show. In Israel’s Channel 10 aired the show based on "Iron chef contest" in the name "Krav Sakinim".
The Story behind the ‘Iron chef contest’ in the Japanese show is recounted in every episode. The founder of the show chairman Takeshi Kaga realized his dream in a form never seen before, and constructed a cooking arena called "Kitchen Stadium". The chefs who visit from all over the world would compete with four of the Iron chefs. Kaga announces the start of the competition with ‘Allez cuisine’ which literally translates in French as ‘go kitchen’.
The Show staff included Kenji Fukui who is the announcer/Commentator in Japanese which is dubbed in English by Bill Bickard. Dr Yukio Hattori is also a Commentator in Japanese which is dubbed in English by Scott Morris. The inventor and the big boss of the Show Takeshi Kaga play the Host for the show; the dubbed voice in English belongs to Duncan Hamilton and Kent Frick. The Kitchen Reporter is Shinichiro Ohta which is dubbed in English by Jeff Manning. The "New York Special" is served and translated by Dave Spector.
The Iron Chef contest had the eccentric flavor even for a game show. It is worth a watch.
