Ireland
The Republic of Ireland is an independent nation occupying just over four-fifths of the island of Ireland, which lies just west of Great Britain and northwest of continental Europe. The republic is called 'fire' in the Irish language; in English it is commonly known as Ireland. It is bounded on the west and south by the Atlantic Ocean, on the east by the Irish Sea, and on the north by Northern Ireland (part of the United Kingdom). The capital of the republic is Dublin. Ireland has been a member of the European Union (EU) since 1973.
