iPhone Vs. iPod touch

So similar, yet so different! You're going to witness a fight today based on iPhone vs iPod touch in the write-up to follow below. Here we go! (Tolls the referee bells!)
Yeah, iAgree. You cannot compare apples with oranges. However, one wouldn't mind if you compare apples with apples, would he? So, after a thorough review of both the devices, iThought of actioning a comparison between the Apple iPhone, and it's sister (or brother, if I may call it one), the Apple iPod touch. The key reason for me to compare both the revolutionary, and extremely attractive devices is that, it had been hardly three months for the iPhone to launch, when Apple gave away iPod touch to its fans all over the world. This made people wonder in marvel as to what made Steve Jobs debut this 'ruler of MP3 players' so early? Well, to our surprise, he did. However, it's our 'Job' to assess what makes both the devices distinct, and different. So, what is the difference between iPhone and iPod touch? Let us carry out this interesting comparison, and you'll realize what you've been missing till date, in case you haven't bought either of the two!

Fundamentals

The basic and the most fundamental difference that comes out when we compare iPhone and iPod touch is that you cannot make calls from the iPod touch. In other words, the Apple iPod touch can also be phrased as an iPhone without the freedom to make calls. What's more, if considered in terms of looks, what bugged me was the appearance. Even though the iPod touch has looks to kill for, it lacks that silver brim possessed by iPhone, making it look extremely beautiful. Personally, iDidn't find iPod touch a head-turner. It's sleeker though!

iPhone iPod touch
Attractive looks. Truly a head-turner. One of the best products from the kitty of Apple. Sleeker, shorter, but not as beautiful as the iPhone. You aren't as confident holding the iPod touch as you are holding the iPhone.
Can make calls and receive calls. Can't make calls or receive calls.

Features

Okay, so this one is tricky, and extensive. From the many reviews you'll hear about both the devices, you'll realize that even with the 4th generation called the Apple iPod touch 4G been launched on September 1, 2010, it fails to stand a chance in comparison to the Apple iPhone. While the iPhone is a proud owner of the Global Positioning System navigation (GPS), iPod touch lacks it. On the other hand, while the iPhone series amazingly owns up to 5 megapixel camera (iPhone 4G), iPod touch owns hardly 1 megapixel of camera. However, being an amazing Multimedia player that iPod touch is, it has an edge over the iPhone in terms of memory. While iPhone's capacity is up to 16 GB, the iPod touch memory capacity goes well up to 64 GB. Among the other features are Google Maps and emails which are terrifically available in the iPhone, but missing in the iPod touch. So, here's presenting a tabular review of the features present in both.

iPhone iPod Touch
Memory up to 32 GB Memory up to 64 GB
2 MP, 3.2 MP, and 5 MP camera 1 MP camera
GPS, Google Maps, e-mailing available None of these are available.

Multimedia

iPod touch was highly expected to deliver fantastic multimedia offerings. However, iPhone surpasses it in this category too. iPhone speakers, even though they aren't supreme quality, are an awesome experience, mostly because of its availability of external speakers. On the other hand, iPod touch, even though has a sound video quality, doesn't attract as much. However, one thing that enticed me the most about the iPod touch was its hands free iPod video viewing. iPod touch comes with a plastic stand, so that one can easily view movies and videos with friends and family. However, iPod touch, being a multimedia player, is highly expected to deliver supreme quality of media playing, but disappoints. After all, it's the iPhone we're comparing it with. Even though the iPhone has comparatively lesser capacity, it offers better multimedia. Here goes the tabular review:

iPhone iPod Touch
Better landscape viewing Videos look marginally less alluring.
Amazing external speakers No external iPod speakers
No plastic stand available for hands-free viewing. Plastic stand available for hands-free viewing.
Considering a phone that it is, 32 GB is more than enough for multimedia. 64 GB is good, but not great for a device dedicated to multimedia playing.

So, that's all about the comparison between both the Apple kids. We know who the winner is. It's the Apple iPhone for all the reasons. Okay, that doesn't mean the iPod touch is a total disappointment. This is the best multimedia player ever made, and for those who're marveling whether it is a lucrative decision to buy the iPod touch, let me tell you that except for telephony, it has everything that iPhone has! However, when it comes to comparing it with the iPhone, you cannot hold yourself to kiss the iPhone and sideline the iPod touch. Personally speaking, both the devices hold the name of Apple behind them. Hence, you cannot question their performance in any way. So, good luck with your decision - this was my take on which one's better. Now is your time to take an action!
