The most commonly observed symptoms are coughing, abdominal pain, diarrhea, delirium and fever. The person can experience pain in the throat and mouth. Feeling shock and stupor may also be observed. A person suffering from iodine poisoning will urinate rarely. Very often, the person will feel thirsty. However, in very rare cases, extreme situations will be observed. For instance, the person will be extremely thirsty or he will, not at all be thirsty. The other scenario will be, he will urinate very frequently or very rarely. The person will also have breathing problems and might suffer from shortness of breath as well.
The person suffering from this ailment will have a metallic kind of taste in the mouth. Seizures are also commonly observed. The person may also appear to be nervous. The eyeballs of this patient might protrude, appearing to be too big. One of the signs is abnormal sensitivity in the retina. A person suffering from this poison might have clear distant vision, but his near vision will be weak.
Loss of appetite, insomnia, inflammation in the brain and nerve tissue are also observed. Sudden vibration in the brain and eyes can also be experienced. Pain in the lower part of the body and morning headaches are also common. Extremely poor or sharp hearing, drop in blood pressure, purple stains around the mouth and high body temperature are some other effects.
Treatment
Keep the person hydrated with enough fluids. Milk, cornstarch and flour mixed with water will be an effective diet. But, if the person is suffering from vomiting, then avoid giving him these foods. Activated charcoal will also help to some extent. The patient will be subjected to stomach wash. This will be done with the help of a tube, which will be inserted via the nose or the stomach of the patient.
